Title: The grand thread of *SIGH*
Post by: mkawa on Mon, 30 December 2013, 22:21:30
my tripod head is insufficient for macro work, and the tripod was wobbling on the annoying not-flat berber floor of my apartment, so i decided, hey, let's weigh the tripod down. at least that will stop the wobbling! so, i looked at the bottom of the center column for a hook to hang something heavy.

"uh-oh, no hook. but hey look, it's threaded and comes off!"

"woah, this center column is just an empty cylinder (well of course it is dumbass)."

"hmm, what should i fill it with... do i have any sand in the house?"

"well, it's aluminum, so i guess i could fill it with water."

*commence filling*

"hmm, i have some steel rods around here somewhere, i should put those in too."

"uh oh, steel rods? water? blurp"

"i know! i'll fill it with this handy motor oil i have sitting around! no rust!"

you can guess what happened.

*SIGH*

Sometimes it's just going through the experience and looking back, only to laugh at yourself and realise wow haha. It's good to have amusing moments like that though :P

i ended up filling it with acrylic latex caulk. denser, water soluble. also bonus 350lb/in spring from a pair of coilovers that got swifts swapped on

oh, and DIY studio lights. 55W CFLs, ikea trashcans, priority mail boxes, hot glue. truly the construction materials of champions.

I waited for Dec 17 to buy the Gasmask Xmas Ed. Then it shipped and I knew it will Arrive before New Year. Sure enough, it came 30 Dec but the mailman decided that the 20 storey tower where I worked does not exist and returned the package to sender, citing no address.

Now my New Year is Gasmask-less.

SIGHHHHHHH!

Holy **** that sounds harsh. I recently bought a bunch of SteelSeries gear with 3 day delivery on 18th. Thinking, okay a piece of this can go to my friend for Christmas present. Got a message a couple days ago saying, didn't ship because it's Christmas and parcels go missing. He didn't apologize or anything, and my parcel is now due to arrive 2 weeks later :/ slightly annoying considering I expected the 3 day delivery. Not even here before the new year! :c

After like 2-3 years and several big promotions/sales, Max Payne 3 went out of steam keys this winter.

Totally, google it. There are threads everywhere, posts from minutes ago, too.  It's been going for WEEKS, and it seems people are constantly posting about it on the steam forums, right as we read/type.

Exhausting.

I wish I could say I have no idea what that's like.

-Split Kinesis project (and related x1000)-started 2009
-Reduced RollerMouse Length project-started 2010
-Ultragauge/Dashpod project-started 2013
-Hard Rollup Tonneau Cover cut to size project-started 2012

I won't talk about the totally custom home built aquariums.

I never wanted to be one of those people that doesn't COMPLETE projects.

Thanx Kawa, I felt so crappy about my unfinished biznez, I did the one thing that was in front of me and reasonably safe to hop on and complete. I won't mention the hours/days of fine tuning.
Finally can check off one project….Ultragauge/dashpod mod.

What took so long, is that there are 3 buttons on the reverse side of the display to change, adjust, turn on/off alarms, choose various gauges to display, rotate information, menus, reset logs, etc. I made it so that by lightly touching any 3 of the corners of the display face, it depresses the buttons on the reverse side against spacers/backplane and the display itself is held by the entire back being covered with hook-loop fasteners. It's pretty trick! Anything can be done with the display without ever taking it out of the pod.
