Tentatively interested pending pricing information and changing future circumstances, etc. :)
Also, switch tools......
titanium switch tools
me too, would go for an Ansi 1.5 plate
Tentatively interested pending pricing information and changing future circumstances, etc. :)
I like this idea, just have to figure out what plate I would want...
I'm in for a 60 percent hhkb type plate.
Hell yeah. I'm in for some switch tools and a HHKB style plate.
I'm interested in a "Universal 10x Spacebar" plate for a GH60.
2x Poker layout but with split backspace please!
Make me an hhkb style that fits omron switches. Me love you long time.
Plate for a FC660M?
Might be interested and at the very least for a switch tool.
Only 60%?
Interested pending on price. What type of finish would it have? Just the unfinished machined look or something else?it will get somewhere between a 36 and 40-ish mil finish. think stainless steel 4B. not polished down to a shine, but a little matte.
in for a switch tool cuz my R1 one from john has extra metal on the inside thats annoying me

Something a file can't take care of?
also re: finish, titanium has fantastic bulk material properties and low weight but doesn't have a ton of surface hardness, so you can really finish the sheet however you want to with pretty basic tools. part of my mockup for the project this material is for involves a brushed and wetsanded CP grade 2 plate that i've been trying to get mostly flat for conductivity experiments. i can take some pictures tomorrow if there's interest. titan has a pretty unique look to it for metallurgic reasons i don't understand in the least.

When everyone says they want a plate with HHKB layout do you guys mean the original HHKB layout or a modified one making use of 7x space bar?
Depends what's on offer I guess, I'd be happiest with a 6.25 spacebar.

Well the original HHKB is 6x not 6.25x not sure how exactly that works out...

Yeah that's going to be a ***** to find spacebars in 6x though.
Will these plates have switch top removal?
If these plates allow switch top removal I'll bump my order to 2 plates. Not fussed if it costs more, I've got two plates here already but they're just universal plates and I know I'll wind up wanting to change springs or stems some time in the future.
SWITCH TOOLS PLSSSSSSSS. No seriously. I need these switch tools.
I thought the hhkb layout for the gh60 uses a 7x spacebar.
I'd like a set of switch tool's (plural or not? I dunno :()
right now we're kind of scrambling to see what else can cut with the drawings we have ready. if the_beast has a 75% drawing ready then it might be possible to get one cut.
the trick here is that you pay for your material and cuts before we order the material from the supplier. we're trying to maximize the amount of material we order from the supplier for volume discounts, so the more the merrier _as long as a drawing exists or is made_.

One problem is that my laser guy hasn't cut Ti before, he can, his laser is 4000 watts. But since this is his first time, I can't say that these are going to be perfect....
Also, I emailed him for a quote, but I'm not sure he can give me one since he hasn't worked with the material. I should hear back from him Monday
also keep in mind that this material is really expensive.
also keep in mind that this material is really expensive.
asssuming one sheet of this material to be cut only with switch tools, can you give a rough estimate on how much would a single switch tool cost?
no, we can't. the laser has never cut Ti before and the cutting shop has absolutely no idea what tolerances, setup time and rough finishing it going to cost or look it.also keep in mind that this material is really expensive.

Anyone know where to have a plate for a FC660M designed?
Still in if I can get them from somewhere.
Titanium is awesome when anodized btw:Show Image(http://torontocycles.com/images/Titanium_colors.jpg)
Thanks for the price update; any idea how steep the programming fee is? ...Since I think I'm the only one here looking for a 60% ALPS board ...
Still idling in the 'broke but interested' category.
Someone reading this may be able to help...
I would like to get a plate which allows you to take the tops of switches off without desoldering each time. I know they exist but I don't know how they differ from a standard plate? Are they manufactured completely differently or just with extra holes where you would press to remove the switch tops?
Ideally a 60% ISO poker 2 plate that does this would be my ideal plate :)
Yes, as all the other plates I have ran, they will allow for switch top removal
First 8 to confirm interest get on the first sheetPlates or tools?
I'd be in for one with the "ANSI 1.5x with short R-shift" layout from the GH60 buy.Show Image(http://geekhack.org/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=41464.0;attach=19235;image)Show Image(http://geekhack.org/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=41464.0;attach=19245;image)
How confident is your laser guy that these will work out well? I know there's some risk involved because this is a new thing, but if there's some significant chance that this first batch will be messy I'd rather wait.

I'm not in for switch tools though. Already have a set ;).

I'd like a re-confirmation now that I have some general pricing
Not sure if the mounts are the same for cherry and costar stabs? I would like mine to be for Cherry stabs if there is a difference?....Didn't think of this factor until just now
To open the switches up once seated in the plate is it 100% necessary to buy a switch tool...or can I open them up another way?
so i'm thinking of hand finishing the raw material to a really fine mirror finish. basically what's going to happen now is that there is a certain amount of material that's going to go to a grinder whose mission in life is going to make it meet very fine mechanical tolerances. our material is going to skip that because it's expensive and unnecessary. all we really care about is how it looks, frankly, and that's best done by smaller hand tools.
if we're going to do it ourselves, a tooling investment will be needed though. a random orbital sander, polishing compound and some abrasives should do it.. the cutter may also be able to surface it quite nicely. i suspect it will be cheaper for us to do it ourselves though.

Not going to lie, I don't like mirror finishes. I think they're gaudy.I just like staring at myself, as I'm so beautiful :))
I'm actually more in favor of reduced finishing, or no finishing. Mirror plates would be an odd, but cool thing, but a plate with random stamps under the cutouts? Way cool -- it would look like something out of the Fallout video game series. Put some Commando set keycaps over the top of it and make that your survivalist keyboard!
I agree cp4 aerospace keyboard plate sounds super cool.. but i hope people arn't going into this JUST on that.. and make a fool of themselves when they meet a titanium xpert.
Grade 5 is also extensively used "in aerospace" and it's much harder than 4, because it's alloyed.Titanium is already very corrosion resistant. As well as very reactive. That's why you don't find the stuff in nature. It's everywhere.
I'd say since all titanium grade would be "hard enough" why not use Grade 7 ?.. it is the most corrosion resistant.. given the sweat from our hands and oils.. that property seems more attractive..

I'm going into it to support The_Beast and mkawa in a pretty cool enterprise, and to get a pretty neat plate out of it in a layout that might be hard to find elsewhere.

I am not against the idea.. I'm just saying.. this cp4 is not tied to aerospace and not a rank
I'd like to buy some tools, please. Do I need to be listed in OP to participate?
I would like 1x Poker plate and 2x pairs of tools (so 4 tools).

Beast, I don't see my name in the OP.
shouldn't a universal TKL plate fit 87 key layouts? It should, yeah. Especially since we have had numerous groupbuys and plenty of models to try them on.
I'm a bit confused. The_Beast doesn't seem to care much about the switch tools. If the problem with moving this forward is a lack of switch tool interest, it should be in the title so that more people know about it.
what price GH is willing to buy them for.
if its $15 for a 60% ti plate count me in for two
if its $15 for a 60% ti plate count me in for two
I'm definitely down for at least one set of switch tools if/when they are ready for sale. Depending on price I might want 2 sets. $15 seems a little steep IMO. If they are that much I'll probably stick with just one set.
Yeh if they're around $15 i'll get a set of tools added to my plate order. If they end up being much more expensive then i'll have to stick to plate only...already pushing budget out to get the plate :)

They'll probably be more, seeing as previous tools of cheaper material were priced at $15. I'd estimate $30, but I could be WAY off.
Wasn't there a bit of manual labor involved with the previous switch tools?
They have to be bent and the ends filed down right?
How much more difficult would it be with titanium?
That would add to the costs and even the feasibility of getting them done considering The_Beast is primarily focused on his education at the moment.
are you willing to add in a universal tkl plate to this, or limiting it only to 60% and below?

anyone?
the_beast only has cutting fees and has reserved space for smaller plates. however, we have some more material. we just don't know how much (it's actually blocked on me, sorry). certainly, the more people who are looking for larger plates, the easier it is on us.. this is an IC, so please register your interest as loudly as possible and find compatriots, etc.
At this time no, in the title it clearly states 60% and I've said multiple times that this GB would be for 60% plates only
my apologies. I had been watching this thread for some time and never saw any definitive response either way to interest in tkl plates, so I simply wanted to clarify. thanks for the response and glwgb!

The_Beast, do you expect this to go to GB/invoicing phase this week? (Want to make sure funds are in the right places.)

Getting everything figured out. Once I start GB, payments will be taken right away, kawa gets Ti, ships to laser, gets cut, ships to me and I ship to you
I doubt it will be more than 2 weeks to GB starting
Is the GB up?
I found it but lost it.
