Title: Gone a Taobao-ing
Post by: nubbinator on Fri, 03 January 2014, 00:11:17
Sometimes I like to dig through the depths of Taobao and see what I can find.  When it's something that I don't want but think someone might want or if it's something I want, but it's out of my price range, sometimes I like to share it.  So here's some of the treasures from recent searches.  Keep in mind, some of this may be sold already and some may need some work, but there are some awesome things that can be found.

hmmm. Interesting finds...

Can somebody actually buy from there and do a group buy type of thing? Is this remotely possible?

Why dont our Chinese members (out there, or the ones that visit China once in a while) buy some of these and save us the hassle of the taobao transaction?

Anybody planning to do that?

Yeah the prices are good, when they have stock. In my experience with buying rare keyboards on taobao tells me like 90% of those model M's are gone.

Ssk 1 and ssk 9 are in stock. Both of the listing have one ssk. 3 and 8 have no stock. For the others, I've no idea.

Also, most of the cherry should be in stock.

Yeah Cherry stuff tends to be far easier to get in general.

Knowing the amount of fakes coming out of China, I'm a little skeptical about these but maybe someone can shed some info regarding these.

fake what... Show me one fake IBM keyboard, show me one fake Topre keyboard. China has faked MX switches, that's it...

Most vintage keyboards coming out of china are junk, not fake...

Here's one, I can probably find more if you'd like - http://www.ebay.com/itm/IBM-Model-M-Keyboard-Part-1394100-/111145302317?pt=PCA_Mice_Trackballs&hash=item19e0c6b92d (http://www.ebay.com/itm/IBM-Model-M-Keyboard-Part-1394100-/111145302317?pt=PCA_Mice_Trackballs&hash=item19e0c6b92d)

That is a trash board with a new sticker printed on it wrapped in plastic. That is a real IBM keyboard, it is not new, it was not manufactured on that date, it was found in an e-recycler type program.

It is junk, yes, it is not fake.

The label is dubious but doesn't necessarily mean it's a fake. That board is from the US as well.

Ah I might stand corrected then, my apologies, thought it was fake. So no fake vintage keyboards from China then? Could have sworn I read something about some fake SSK's going around.

That's a faked sticker, not a faked keyboard.  AFAIK, there aren't any keyboards that look like an SSK, M13, F AT, or Industrial IBM.  As such, you can't just slap a fake sticker on a.similar looking keyboard and hope someone buys it.

I'll post some stuff here too when I get the chance. I've been going through taobao a lot lately.

Also, 'some interesting beige and creamn doubleshots and dyesubs' is a desko set. The ones with subtext = cherry/bsp dyesubs, the ones without subtext = cherry/gmk doubleshots.

Bunch of original Cherry dyesubs/doubleshots, etc. including a very rare set or two (http://shop107253296.taobao.com/category-820052253.htm?spm=a1z10.1.w4010-4494308193.7.Nqo9HI&search=y&catName=%BC%FC%C5%CC%C0%E0#bd)

$100ish for the NCR G80-0528 is kind of tempting... 832 is gorgeous too, but that price damn.
Dolch is 1813 too by the way... 1838 is the model of the Compaq.

Some of the rarer items I've come across. I won't list 3000s/1800s etc. since they're very common on taobao.

Cherry G80-0832H (http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a230r.1.14.138.g9aubn&id=16805874126)
NCR G81-3007HAU (http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a230r.1.14.156.1pMepy&id=19404511090)
NCR G81-3007HAU (keycaps only?) (http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a230r.1.14.287.c1Am2e&id=22451676496)
NCR G81-3007HAU (http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a230r.1.14.17.rIgfp5&id=18824819600)
NCR G81-3077SAU - Condition of keycaps seems to be pretty crappy, price is very high (http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a230r.1.14.53.n6irVD&id=35690692525)
G80-1191HBU - These are common on taobao, but unlike the rest the keycaps all seem to be in great condition on this one. (http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a230r.1.14.232.wBnQgs&id=36870345069)
Black on white ANSI 1800 doubleshots (http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a230r.1.14.9.n6irVD&id=35755832257)
Original ANSI Cherry dyesubs - hard to know the condition, but if the condition is any good then the price is great (http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a230r.1.14.170.BHMyFs&id=17735137988)
G83 rubber dome with dyesubs (http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a230r.1.14.163.wBnQgs&id=36075679225)
NIB? G80-3190HPG - UK ISO w/ fulltouch capslock (http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a230r.1.14.249.SOcqSZ&id=24663056384)

Most thing that annoys me with taobao... when things are not available anymore the listing remains anyway.
