I Don't like listening to Music.. (http://a.deviantart.net/avatars/k/y/kyleoniplz.gif?1)
It's a high processing load task, for a mere moment of escape / emotional shift..
And I do not believe these emotional shifts are useful..
I've tried to like it for years... even if at times it could feel pleasant, it's a purposeless undertaking...

:(

That sucks.
Lately I've been listen to more comedy albums than music tho. But I don't think thati could completely give up music.

Have you tried classical music? When studying it is helpful for concentration and blocks out some background noise, and it also helps to reduce road rage or just anger in general.

i am lvl 8 on piano. I've had enough classical to say that it all points to the same outcome.. a temporary emotional drift.
Now, You can pursue such a shift in feel for the PURPOSE of the shift itself, but then that isn't really any different than taking a drug or other forms of escapism..

I find it quite sad and hard to understand. Isn't there some genre you still need to discover? Something that you can really relate to?

Get yourself a Hemi 427 and relax to the dulcet tones of a decent V8. That always calms me when I'm under stress and it sure pleases my neighbour's who I just hate to death :thumb: .

Esoteric Slowcore.

I miss listening to music.
-
I still enjoy listening to music, although I seem to listen to more podcasts these days.

You've decided you don't like listening to music?
... OK? Anything else?
-
And I do not believe these emotional shifts are useful..
Listening fast-paced and/or aggressive music when doing crude manual work often raises my productivity up by 50%
Slow relaxing music helps me coming down, and smooth seducing music helps getting to the cooch, so it's kinda useful!

I'm listening to music while reading this thread... actually there's a schubert piano concerto playing in the other room, but I have my headphones half on playing deadmau5.

I used to listen to music while walking to and from the railway station. But I could never find anything with a tempo that matched my stride.
So now I listen to various podcasts. I have found a quietish back street to walk along, so the traffic noise does not bother me.

“Music is a secret and unconscious mathematical problem of the soul.” ~ Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz
I guess you have no aptitude for mathematics. Or music appreciation. It's not for everybody.
-
level 8 in piano and you decided you dislike music? Those $$ and time investment!
-
Cool story, be sure to keep us updated on your gradual transformation to full robot because it's super interesting and I totally want to hear more.

u misunderstand.. I do not -dislike- music..
I dislike listening to it purposelessly... as in, simply to change my mood, to momentarily escape the reality of existence..

Or a soul.

If there existed a clear definition of soul, I would consider defending the fact that I had one..

I love listening to music. I used to have it on constantly when studying. I used to live in a noisy dorm and it really helped to have familiar music playing since it drowned out the distracting noise and replaced it with something that was both familiar and uplifting and provided a reference background to help my brain focus on what I was studying and be able to recall it.
You don't need to put effort into listening to gain the benefits.
I usually put on music to match my mood, not so often to change it.
