If I read the faq correctly the g80-3000 keycaps should fit in any keyboard with standard layout. After some reading I found the g80-3000 has several different keycaps and I'm interested in the black and all gray versions.
So my questions are:
What materials are those keycaps made of? Black is pom but gray is?
Where can I get the all gray set?
Are the legends on all the versions from the dyesub days pretty much the same or identical?

Cherry Article Numbers (http://deskthority.net/wiki/Cherry_article_numbers) are going to be pretty much need. look at the 5-7 digit code after the '3000' and you will know the type of material used, the connector type, the method of legends, the layout, the switches used, and some other helpful things.
Dyesubs have nearly identical legends, just as a slightly fuzzier version of doubleshot legends. it's not very noticable, but certainly you can tell up close. Cherry Dyesubs however are done extremely well, it's very hard to notice, unlike imsto legends.

PBT is etched; POM is engraved, with infill and without it sometimes, it varies.

IF you have ANSI keyboard you can get Cherry official replacement KC104 set for pretty cheap in taobao.

How do the old 2nd hand cherry pbt keycaps feel? Do they have that coarse sandy feel like the Vortex?

Thats good to know. Now would it be possible to mix and match say a 37 cherry pbt set onto a Ducky keyboard?
Would the cherry keycaps be too low compared to oem profile and make typing awkward?

Cherry profile is about 2mm shorter than OEM. Some people seem to be OK with that... it would make me crazy but I hate OEM profile anyway.
If you just want a cheap Cherry set to put on something like a Ducky, I would suggest looking for G80-8113/8200/8963. These models have all the right keys including a flat caps lock that will fit properly. While there are not any I can see for really cheap (there is a fair priced doubleshot one though) from a quick look on ebay at the moment, it's not all that uncommon for them to pop up in the $20-40 range.
