Title: Just bought a Tipro on ebay and have a question.
Post by: dunkin on Mon, 06 January 2014, 20:18:05
Hello everyone! I am new here. I just purchased this item (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Tipro-SHS-KM12BC-5W-001-Programmable-Keyboard-/331069547968?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4d154865c0). A Tipro SHS-KM120BC-5W-001. I have downloaded the change me software and went digging for my long lost P/S2 cable. When I go into the software should I just use the MID-KM128-CM device?

I plan on using this with the chamsys lighting software. If all goes well I might look for one to use with some other audio applications. I am going to search for relegendable keys (mainly 2x2 and double shots). Does anyone have any good recommendations? Thanks for any help in advance!

Also, I have access to a "laser" (best Austin Power voice) at work.  Has anyone tried sanding the keys down and trying to laser engrave them?

An update...
I just received my tipro. A couple of notes:
It works great.
-The LCD mount is apart of the controller back panel. Probably going to hack it off unless someone has just the plastic piece.
-The places where there are 1x2 and 2x2 keys some of the switches have the springs removed. Does anyone know if the contact is still there? I might be able to just buy the springs.
-When I plug a keyboard into the controller (Daisy Chain) the keyboard doesn't work. There two other ports on the back but they have one of the pins blocked off so that I can't plug a normal P/S2 connector. When the unit is analyzed it shows a bar code reader. I assume that this is where that would get plugged in.

I am working on getting the characters for the software I am using. This going to be fun!

So I removed one of the switches without the springs. There are no contacts in the switch so even if I got springs they wouldn't work. So what I have decided to do is figure out my layout with the 2x2 and 1x2 keys and solder the stabilizing switches where I will need them.

Here is my work today. I am laying the boards out so that I can replace useable switches with support ones for the bigger keys. Taking the switches out isn't that bad with a solder sucker.

I think you can get relengendables from SP. I don't think they're in the Tipro profile though. Not 100% sure.

I was beginning to think I was talking to myself, lol! Do you know if anyone has gotten tipro to send keycaps to the U.S. other than through a proxy? I was going to try to roll the dice and see if they would mail me some. I know I would have to order min quantities but then I would have them to proxy to others. My other option might be x-keys also. I will compare them to sp. Thanks for the information. Now if only the software would operate like it is supposed too.

I don't really know actually. It's worth a shot to email them and ask though. And perhaps you can have a forum member help you proxy them. I think there's a couple guys from Slovenia here.

I did get a hold of someone. The problem mostly is the cost to ship. To ship a package of like .5lbs is ~$50. I might as well just buy the ones from SP. I ordered some keycaps from x-keys to see if they have the same profile. The package should be here tomorrow so we will see.

I received my keycaps from X-keys yesterday. The 2x2 are within the profile of the Tipro. The 2x1 and the 1x1 are not. They stick up ever so slightly. Also, I ordered a set of switches from them. I thought they were cherry blacks but to my surprise they are browns.
