Title: 60% with Trackpoint
Post by: obra on Mon, 06 January 2014, 21:48:44
Justin from TEX confirms to me that they have a working prototype of a 60% mechanical keyboard with a trackpoint they're developing :)

Miniguru lives!

Now here's hoping they make a bigger one for those of us who aren't fond of 60%...

Left and right click. They activate when you press the spacebar down

I am always interested in new keyboard developments. and (as always) the engineering that goes into making them. I hope tex can do it again!

can't wait.

Is it a wireless or a wired keyboard?

What options do you have on the switch, says, MX Brown?

Avid trackpoint users will tell you how good and accurate it is compared to touchpad(s). I personally have always used mouse + keyboard, but I can see this design being extremely convenient when you don't have space to use a mouse.

Very interested in this. With the Matias 60% coming and now this, 2014 is going to be an interesting year.

I much prefer the Trackpoint nub to a touchpad. More accurate and easier to reach. It takes less space, too :)

Are or aren't?

Arrow keys are the tits.  I use them far more often than those other wastrels - right ctrl/shift/alt, menu, and - the worst offender! - caps lock.

I really really really like this. I love 60% boards in general but this is lovely.

The inclusion of a trackpoint is great for laptop users, and the colour combinations this site offers look awesome. I may have to get one in that Red Alert colour scheme for playing RTS games on the move... And I've only just noticed those mouse buttons - those are seriously cool.

I also like the fact you can connect it to the power if you need a hub.

I think I've only ever used that section of the keyboard for the occasional typing of € (alt gr).

To me, trackpoint to touchpad is what vim home row navigation to dedicated cursor keys.  After some learning curve, the need imposed by latter to move hand away for such pervasive task as navigation just feels silly.

Having said that, not all trackpoints are created equal.  Love Lenovo, hate Dell; Endura pro's trackpont was also a let-down.

Let's hope this board's trackpoint is as good as Lenovo; the board is fully programmable (to put arrow keys on any home row combo WASD, ESDF, HJKL, IJKL) and has no silly dedicated cursor keys. ;D  That would be my money-is-no-object-keyboard-nirvana.

If you make mini with trackpoint that is bluetooth... you will have a killer for a tablet keyboard.

Now that's a new idea; using cherry switches for the trackpoint clickers. I'm sold.

I'm not so sure it's a great idea, MX switches have far higher travel than usual mouse buttons. I think it would lead to fatigue over time.

Spacebar is the most used "character" in any language. I don't believe that having 3 extra thumb buttons would make a difference for your thumb!

May be with thick thick o-rings it will be ok?
