Just got a (refurb with american keys) red-switched, illuminated (white leds) keyboard from Mechanical Keyboards, called the Shine II. Pulled the key caps off this bad boy, and put in some blue o-rings (http://www.wasdkeyboards.com/index.php/products/keyboard-accessories/cherry-mx-rubber-o-ring-switch-dampeners-125pcs.html#ad-image-0) from wasdkeyboards. I replaced the WASD cluster with heavy zinc keys, and the spacebar with a lighter aluminium key.
It's only fair that I give a picture of this awesome keyboard :]

What I'm curious about, is different options for illumination friendly keys? It seems like the majority of group buys on geekhack are for real thick double shots, and thick dark-colored PBT's. A friend of mine has a full set of Dye Subs in Blue with Black lettering, and it looks pretty cool. Problem is, on my keyboard, even if I blast the LEDs to full, its hard to read the Dye lettering. FYI translucent keys look crazy to me.

Or if you didn't like them, you could just turn them off? Backlight elitism is the most idiotic thing..

I have a Shine 3, and you might like some PBT caps. Ones from Banggood are really cheap ($18 for an 87-key set) and are medium thickness; LEDs will shine through just fine. My Shine 3 is the Yellow edition with thick PBT, and somehow Ducky managed to make it backlight-enabled, as I can see them perfectly.
My recommendation is blank caps. Makes your board at least 1.3x cooler, and you learn to type better.

Ducky Zero plus a box of clear switches and a weekend's diligent soldering should see you right ;)

I type in alot of weird positions.. so not really ready for blank caps. The trick is not the thickness, but the luminosity/transparency of the keycap when light is applied. Yellow is too bling-bling to me. I want red keys, and maybe green for; (up,down,left,right) and (wasd). I wish there was a store where I could try tons of keycaps, and just know what I want exactly. I really like this keycap set (http://i.imgur.com/kx1wOhR.jpg), but I know it isn't friendly with illumination because the keys look too dark. :/
I have the LED lighting on the lowest setting (5 levels of lighting) in that picture. It's not that bad, at it's highest setting it's blindingly high.

I love the LEDs, although it'd be cooler if they'd give up on white/red/blue, and just give customers RGB with a gray encoded dial to switch the LED lighting.. maybe I should write some code for that... >.> (NXP processors are both cheap (http://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/LPC1769FBD100,551/568-4966-ND/2206364), large internal sram/flash, and have rather obscene MIPS.)

RGB LEDs are physically too large to fit in the LED slot in the cherry housing.
