Title: Blue ALPS broke my heart (question about broken keyboard)
Post by: Cats_Claw on Fri, 10 January 2014, 15:54:24
It's my first post on this forum so...

Hello keyboard geeks!  :thumb:

Recently I bought perfect condition KB-6251EA v. 2 with original box, instuctions etc. It has SKCM Blue ALPS although I thought it would be white ALPS, following deskthority wiki.
I felt in love with feeling of these switches (especialy when I consider the low price I paid)  :rolleyes:
Today I had some time to blow it with compresed air and give it a little cleanup with teeth brush.
I did it as I did few times before with other keyboards - I took of cover, disconnected wires from pcb, blow it, and brush beetwen the switches (this time I don't had to use any cleaning liquids, because it was in really good shape).
After the cleaning I connected it back to PC, and it turned out that something is wrong.
Here is what happening:

When PC is OFF, diodes are responding when I'm pressing numlock, capslock, and scrollock;
When I turn on my PC they are turning ON and OFF few times before system boots;
In the login screen (Windows 7), when I press any key, numlock LED blinks, and keyboard don't respond anymore.

I'm using DIN -> PS/2 adapter.
Other keyboard work fine on this PS/2 socket - I'm writing right now on old ALPS-White-like-keyboard (kpt).
I must admit that I've got very excited about that keyboard and I would get depressed if it would break after one day of using...  :confused:

Does anyone had similar issue before?

I wrote that page based solely on the models I was able to find, which is true for most of the wiki — we're only documenting what has been discovered. I'll update the 6251EA entry to note that it was also sold with blue Alps, with a reference back to this topic.

KB-6252 was also discovered with Aristotle Cherry MX clones (not seen those in a Nan Tan before). The weirdest one is the Omron version that uses a steel plate instead of a plastic plate. Gotta love Far East consistency …

BTW, are the keycaps doubleshot or pad printed?
