Title: Elder scroll online
Post by: JPG on Mon, 13 January 2014, 15:58:52
I am not a huge fan of the elder scroll series, but I still like it. I am also not a big fan of MMO in general. Not against it, but I played Ultima online for a year, WOW for a year and a half, SWTOR for 3-4 months and even if each game had it's interest, at least for a while, each had some big flaws. I also get tired of any game except for DOTA/LOL which is the game I have been coming back to for the last 8-10+ years when I get tired of a game.

But I recently found the Elder scroll online video (awesome really, the big promo one that last 5 min.). After seeing the video, I got interested in the game and wanted to see if they would add something new to the MMO genre. And it seems that yes. By the way, even if I like to level up doing some PVE and following the storyline, I also like PVP a lot. Seems I could have a lot of fun with this game.

So, I tried to get into the last beta and made it and played for the weekend (not that much, but enough to get an idea) and I must say that the game seems really nice.

Here's my pros of the game from what I experienced:

- I like the combat system even if I am curious to see it in a pvp environment.
- I like how the quests have an actual story that is somewhat linked to the main story (from what I did). Keeps you connected to the story.

So, anyone else is waiting for the release? Anyone else played the beta yet? I know we ain't supposed to reveal stuff, but I am pretty sure I can give my opinion in a general way without saying anything in detail.

I was on the beta as well though with it being exam period for me atm I didn't really have that much time to play it. The gameplay was pretty much what I expected from an elder scrolls game and its nice that it transferred into the MMO though yes, I do wonder how that will work in PvP. I think my main issue with the concept in general is the subscription. I really thought the industry had come to terms with the fact that subscription is dead unless your game is EVE or WoW. Obviously, the game is costing them a lot to make and they want to recoup that money but I suspect I'm not the only one put off the majority of MMOs because of subscription fees.

I played in the last beta and it was ****ing awful for a game that's supposed to be in a mid+ beta stage. Some guy in /zone said it best: "It's like GW2 and Neverwinter had a kid with down syndrome." Complete dookie balls.

I played for around 5-7+ hours and encountered no real problem except for a quest or 2 that needed me to logout a few times to be able to complete it. But it's still beta, so things like that are expected. Also, the gameplay/visual was very fluid.

But maybe I didn't go in some troublesome places. I only had time to hit lv 8.

As for subscription, I think it's nice. What bothers me usually is when you need to pay a lot for the game and for extensions. If you pay monthly fees, I consider that the game itself should be cheaper and the expansions free or cheap. I WAY prefer paying for a subscription than having to pay for goodies in the game. As long as the quality is meet in the game itself.

The ES series always became better with the huge Mod community.
Will any of that be available online? I don't have the time to play a $15 a month game anyway.

For an MMO? Doubt it.

I guess with it as a full MMO no modding is possible. I mostly single-play games anyway.
I'm curious to see how it does. I would miss the Oblivion/Skyrim type of game if they stop making them.

Giving this a try for the stress test weekend tomorrow.

That is if the client ever ****ing finishes downloading. It's been at it for nearly 4hrs and is only at 9% complete.  >:D
at this rate it'll be done by goddamn Saturday. Bethesda, your servers are already smoking and the server stresser hasn't even begun yet!

The size is massive, near 30gb. After all that waiting, I could play for less than a minute before getting disconnected. I think I'll get up fairly early tomorrow, hopefully there will be less stress on the servers.

I haven't had any issues aside from the 12min que. Runs very smoothly so far, but it is a bit boring :(

I dunno, there are a few bugs that I noticed, but overall it was a pretty fun experience. It stays mostly true to the single player gameplay I have been used to with morrowind and oblivion, etc.

Anyways.... back in queue... 1hr 45min.

no players collision in a game with "free" targeting (as in you don't lock a target) sounds horrible to me

Besides, it really brings nothing new to the table, gfx pretty bad etc. Ill pass..
