How viable is to order keycaps from taobao.com and have them show up at your address in North America? Has anyone done this and if so what has your experience been like?
Thanks.

You need a proxy for taobao to anywhere other than China. When that happens, its usually the proxy who will screw up, if anything.
For people ordering inside china on taobao, its pretty good. Its basically a chinese ebay, so its person to person with a bunch of big sellers.

Thanks. I ended up stumbling on this thread http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=49203.0 Back to the drawing board.

I wasn't totally sure what I was ordering, the shipping was almost as much as the keycaps I ordered, and it took almost 2 months to arrive. Never again.

Woah
noisyturtle, was that with a third party acting as a proxy?

Yeah, I used buyfromtaobao. It may have been mostly their fault, but the experience was scarring.

Best way is to get a friend to buy it for you in china then get them to ship it or bring it back to where ever you live and shipping is not that expensive, its like 25$ from china to US/Canada(This includes shipping from seller to your friends place)

I once ordered 3 sets (should have been the same keycap type) and the fonts were different on all of them. I didn't pay a ton and they were PBT, but still...
Wasn't a very nice experience.
