Title: Looking for a certain Japanese-layout keyboard, please help
Post by: nads93uk on Sun, 02 February 2014, 13:26:26
Hi everyone!
My Filco Zero that I bought from Clevery about 4 years ago kinda messed up. I've gotten extremely accustomed to the JIS layout and would like to buy a new keyboard with it.

I'm looking for something like the QPAD MK80 or the Tesoro Durandal but in JIS layout, so basically something clicky with the luxury of a USB port and audio jacks. [attach=1]
Is there anything similar I can find?

(I'm in the UK but a Japanese buddy is coming over soon so he said he'd buy it if I tell him which one to buy)

Thanks in advance everyone!

As far as I know there are not too many JIS layout MX keyboards available. I can't think of any that have a built in usb hub. If you might like backlight there is Japan version of Ducky Shine. Of course Filco make a few different ones from Minila (this is the only one that does have 1 usb port), tenkeyless and fullsize. Leopold had a couple models. I think ID Factory may have as well. There is also a few models made by Cherry in the G80 line. I have a G80-3600LYCJA.

If you have a Japanese buddy and aren't trying to get low prices, Japanese layout Filcos are everywhere. Even ebay USA has Japanese layout Topres and Filcos. But the USB port and backlight you want seem hard to find.

One question of course, is how do you propose to deal with the keycap problem. You are permanently stuck with the original keycaps.

Price isn't too much of an issue, my buddy (who knows nothing about keyboards btw) is coming over in a couple of weeks so I was hoping he'd buy them there and bring them with him to London.

And if you're talking about key cap wear, I'm not actually too fussed to be honest, if I don't go to Japan myself in the next few years then I'll just use the double shots from my G80.

If you're talking about key cap layout then it's not an issue, it's a plus.

It'd be real convenient to have the USB &/or headphone jacks, I was wondering if anyone knew any other makes that aren't too known outside Japan because the last time I went there I remember seeing quite a few brands that I hadn't ever seen here on geekhack (don't ask me for names, I was only 15).

Anyone in Japan with any info on the matter?
