Dramatically reduced glare.. I hadn't realize how much of it was coming from the table..

Brightness decreases proportionally to the square of the distance of the observer..
So if you remove reflective sources closer to the original source.. that is the best way to cut down glare..

Speaking of glare, I'm annoyed by those white, made from recyclable material, pages in some books (especially textbooks). It's so hard to read those at night because the pages catch glare from your table lamp.
