Anyone have experience with these keyboards and their build quality when compared to a Roswill or CM RF?
-
I have heard people having faulty units but that's expected with anything. Mine has great build quality, really sturdy and hasnt let me down in the year ive had it. If you like the layout, ive heard the keycool 84s are sturdier. But I love switching the caps lock with control soooo much. Also I should mention that I havent touched my noppoo since I got my poker :-X

I was interested due to the key layout being new to the 60 percent build.
If anyone knows of Pokers with brown switches in stock I'm all ears.
I also saw a brand that uses a unique kind of switch something Heaven that is sold under two different brands at different prices through I believe it was elite keyboards (I'd look it up if I wasn't mobile) any thoughts on those?
Anyone have thoughts on the OMG Duckys?
Lots of questions I know. Just trying to get feedback before I buy.

I think youre talking about the Type Heaven which is topre but definitely worth trying before buying, if you have a local microcenter. Anyhoo I bought my poker with browns from qtans store and it came in 4 days. Hes extremely good to deal with and a very fast shipper. Pokers are an amazing board to have, easily moddable and an awesome programming feature. It was about 120 shipped to me in Philadelphia. I prefer my poker over my noppoo but everyone has a preference. If you dont like the fn layer, and you dont wanna mod it for leds or anything, id get a noppoo.

I have no idea who's store you're talking about, lol, but I can't find them in stock anywhere - and I would like a keyboard that I can mod for backlighting, new switches, different keycaps, etc. over anything - whichever the most customizable stock board there is available.

right there buddy, from what you just said. the poker 2 sounds like the perfect board for you. i definitely love mine! :thumb:

poker 2 is the most modifiable for sure.
but really think about what layout you want; you're kinda all over the place with your picks.

Some of these are just questions with regards to keyboards I've seen that intrigued me and not my first choice. Quite frankly either a TKS or 60% board is what I want, with brown switches and the ability to be customized.
I see no reason in having a full sized board if I can do everything with a 60% board by using a function key.

Pull the trigger and grab the poker 2! From everything that you have said, that's your dream board. ( I say this as I'm typing on one)

Choc mini has superb keycaps, thick Cherry-profile POM (black) or PBT (white), if you don't mind lasered lettering (which is ****, but it doesn't matter at all). The layout is kinda nice too (with optional Ctrl-CapsLock swap).
There issues with its debouncing rate every now and then, but that's it. Even if it fails (mine hasn't for almost two years), you get quality keycaps and some switches to desolder at decent price.

Davkol and others (http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=48320.0), Glissant being the one that comes to mind the most, have also said the debouncing issue is frustrating about this board. If you get a board that has the issue.

I have one sitting in a box in my apartment. What would you like thoughts on?

Think you mean TKL?

I have had issues people mention about the Choc Mini. The debouncing issue, couldn't alleviate it even by changing the settings on the board like people mention. Several of my keys also stop registering if I move them around much while they're pressed down, which makes it basically useless for some games.
I 've heard of these and other issues with the Choc Mini much more often than other boards. I know all kb's have issues occasionally, but all I can do is give my own experience and say I wouldn't buy another Choc Mini. I guess if you know how to repair then it's not a big deal.
I also agree with what others are saying - the keycaps are really nice.
-
I actually disliked the keycaps on my Choc Mini. Mine was from the first production run several years ago, but the caps got oily really easily.
I also disliked the layout as well. Good luck trying to find replacement keycaps for those side keys as well.
I now own 4 original Pokers (as well as others, but I use the Pokers daily). Couldn't be happier...until the next big thing comes along. :p

I have not had a single issue with my choc mini but thats just in my own personal experience. I have however heard many other people complain about an assortment of things. Seems like its really hit or miss. On the other hand, im not sure if ive ever met a dissatisfied poker owner.

The original poker was flimsy and most people got it for modding, I guess.

How is a TKL a compromise if its bigger than the 87key and the 60%?

TKL = 87key
There are only three relatively good things about it: separated clusters to avoid accidental unwanted key presses (if you care about it); potentially standard layout to replace keycaps (if you care); dedicated Insert and Menu keys (if you use them).

Im sorry, I misworded that. I meant how is a tkl a compromise between an 84 key (noppoo) and a 60% (poker 2) when it is bigger than both.
-
You can use standard keycap sets like on some 60% keyboard and don't lose any dedicated keys of 84key layout. Can't think of anything else.
-
I like TKL better than Noppoo layout because it is easy to switch from work to home keyboards.

What does that even mean?

I don't like the odd layout of the Noppoo.

That is really relevant in this topic.
Anyway, has anyone seen the white choc mini in the wild recently? I suspect they're discontinued... too bad, because I think the white looked better, had higher quality lettering and didn't have horrible blue LEDs.
-
I own 2 of them, black and white. They are well built. Thick caps (not sure if PBT's - can someone confirm) I wasn't a big fan of their case though. The great thing I liked about them was the positioning of the F1 keys because it was right above the number keys. And the position of dedicated arrow keys!
I'm using them for a mod project so it's been gutted but I gotta great deal on them. White is definitely old school and it's actually not compatible with MAC's unless you do some wiring mojo. The Black is better build ( i assume this is a later run). The cable is detachable on the white, but the black isn't. There are pro's and con's to this. The mini usb is notorious for being fragile.
It's heavy and the keycaps are very well made. But it's... a little funky. The layout and all that is a tad different. Not sure if I recommend this as a daily, but I know some Starcraft pro's swear by them. (that's where I first heard of it)
-
white ~ PBT
black ~ POM
-
The 75% layout is funky but fun if you get used to it. I use it a lot more frequently than my TKL, partly because I paid more for it X)
I have a KC84 and my friend has a Choc mini; I prefer the KC84 because I feel the layout is a little bit better (that spacebar on the choc..)
-
I have 4 Noppoo Choc mini and they are all fine. Of course they cannot compare with Filco or Topre, but they are slightly better than CM QF, which I also possess.
-
I have a Noppoo Choc Mini with blues that is at least 2 years old and besides the occasional hiccup where a certain key doesn't register or double taps, it is a pretty good board. I think it feels noticeably less sturdier than the other keyboards I've owned, though. The case is all bowed and the legends are really ****tily printed, but it does its job well. I use it as a beater keyboard that I take around with me.
