Title: Do you get tired of waiting?
Post by: SpAmRaY on Thu, 06 February 2014, 07:42:59
Am I the only one who gets tired of waiting?

I mean you go shopping, you wait in the checkout line.

You try to go out to eat only to find out there is a 45 minute wait.

The water department decides to put out a boil order so you have to wait to drink the water out of the faucet for a week!

USPS or UPS freak out when there is a little bit of snow/ice on the ground and don't deliver packages.

Try to do a family outing and the one kid decides to poop then after that one the other one decides they have to poop and then the wife, then the dogs and finally you just decide you've waited too long and your not going anywhere so you might as well go poop to but then you have to wait again because you really didn't have to go but your here so make it happen.

The older I get the less patience I have, I want it and I want it NOW!  ::)

Not to mention any and everything keyboard related.

Not like that, no.

The waiting I'm starting to get tired of is the massive hype-train in the entertainment business. Every new film or game gets hyped up way too early. Series with yearly installations start the hype immediately after the yearly release, and new IPs/reboots start like 2 years before any possible release.

Sadly no,  they just go in the floor because they don't want to go outside because it is so cold right now, and sometimes it is found unexpectedly with bare feet which is even worse. Of course the puppy not only poops in the floor but then he plays with it and gets it everywhere and you would think shaggy brown carpet would be a plus in this situation but it only makes it harder to get it all because its like the perfect camouflage.

I think I'm an old man. :(

I hate waiting so much. Whenever I go to places to pick up food, I call in and order before. I hate especially waiting for free stuff. My time is more important than the $3 meal I'd be waiting for. I also hate ****ing waiting in line at the post office. Slowest **** ever. Also **** lines for the bathroom. Also hate traffic. Rubbernecking is the bane of my existence. **** mornings too while were at it. ****.

I got a new job offer today after waiting over a month. I told them I'd give them my answer Monday. It's going to be a long weekend...

Yeah I do that depending on what I'm waiting on and it definitely makes the time go by faster.

i waited for three days, then they called me and told me they'll send an offer in email. i told them i'll answer next monday as well. then i checked for new email and saw the offer and an interview invitation from a cool international tech company. so yes, it's going to be a long weekend.

I don't mind waiting but I get irked off when people in front of me are unnecessarily slow or if the place I'm at doesn't do proper front of the house management.

Then at the checkout, the person before you is a 100 year old lady paying for $10 worth of groceries with a check, which she literally takes 10 minutes to write.  I don't get annoyed by it though, they are old so they get a pass, but it makes me LOLWTF in my mind.

Not when you have a full cart of random crap because you're shopping with the wife and kid(s), it isn't practical because the bagging area is too small, and the POS complains then needs cashier assistance when you move **** around.  If you're a single dude that just buys WTF you need, then this is indeed an option.

I'm very tired of waiting on USPS. My local post office is absolutely horrible (so much so that about a dozen people on Yelp think they're running a scam, stealing packages), and maybe only 1/5 packages are delivered on the day they're scheduled to be.

A good portion of your life is spent waiting. An average person might spend upwards of 5years out of their entire lives just waiting around, doing nothing. Best to learn and love it, it's like your life's way of forcing you to take a step back and chill out. That is to say, I'm not one of those people who jumps on any opportunity of lull in their life's momentum to pull out their phone and go into that, head-down-and-ignore-this-awkward-moment-long-enough-it-will-go-away mode.

Anyways, you're always waiting for something and there should be enough around you in this age to distract you long enough for life to become entertaining again. Or at least you can wait to die.

Waiting for something to download is also quite bothersome...

i remember taking 15 minutes to download a single song from napster..

and yet I managed to fill a 250gb harddrive this way...

back in the day..

it wasn't until early 2001 when I got 80KB/s broad band...  I also only had 512 ram

Ditto.

Also, it frequently seems like the phrase "hurry up and wait" summarizes our society pretty well.

I am in the direct opposite situation.

I used to be super impatient, and always had somewhere to go and places to be. Now, I do not mind to slow down, sit and relax. Regardless of where it is or for what. Things come and go without you noticing if you never take a second to look around. There are things I hated because they were slow and boring, and now I just wish I could have enjoyed them.

I know it is not the same thing as what the OP is talking about. But I think it applies to many situations.

I hate waiting while I'm waiting.  Geekhack doesn't load properly on my Tapatalk, so I always quit the app and use my browser instead.

Am I the only one who gets tired of waiting?

No, I hate waiting. I run up escalators or stairs to avoid waiting. When I walk somewhere in NYC, I walk fast -- so fast that my wife, walking alongside me, will 'downshift' me. Actual driving in NYC doesn't help either. My favorite phrase is: "MOVE YOUR DEAD ASS!" said with more gusto than text can convey.

I'm with you there. Thank the Lord for self-checkout lines. *boop*boop*boop* I'm out. It's way better than listening to an octogenarian haggle over the price of canned corn and then write a check. Probably the best place to shop for food has to be a Stew Leonard's megamart near me. They have 50 checkout lines, and they're all open and manned. They even have a drill sargeant-like person who directs slow people (I call them 'slugs') to available checkout lines. It's awesome.

Also, I notice that people from the Midwest (this is anything not in the immediate tri-state area) are shockingly slow. I went to Penn State, and football weekends were nuts. All these people visiting for the game, all walking four abreast on the sidewalk, moving so slowly I would try to pass them, but they're a goddamned wall of flesh, so I would run up onto someone's lawn and then back down again. These people were so slow they made me feel like I was in The Matrix.

For GBs I try to just forget that I'm in them. I pay the invoice and then try to forget. Until you remind me, Ray. Thanks.

Generally I don't have a problem with waiting times...
It gives me the chance to space out and think about thesis and stuff :)

I love the orange and black theme. I use the browser on my phone and go on the forum whenever I'm waiting for anything. Especially usps lines.
Download speed is amazing now.
