I really wish there was a replacement HHKB case that was realistically affordable and available.
Any suggestions on fixes/alternatives to the front tabs?
All three of mine are broken.

Find something else plastic, break it into a tab shape, epoxy that replacement tab to what's left of your broken tab.

How did they break?

How did they break?
It was weird just in the processing of opening they just broke very easily, actually one of them was broken from before and the other two just snapped right off.

That sucks..I don't understand why they don't just use screws all around.

These cases aren't really designed with us enthusiasts in mind. In other words, the design intent isn't for the keyboards to be opened up.
Snap fits which are easy to make and cheap. They're also not that durable. I've broken a ton of them opening various keyboard cases.

These did seem to be more brittle than some other cases I have opened, not sure if that is common to HHKB's or if its the age of my particular case.

because the matrial is <PS> :-X why is not ABS
and case mounted people can't make custom case like RF
-
I'm fairly certain the case material is PBT or something similar. Explains why they're so much more brittle than other ABS cases.
-
the black HHKB case might be ABS as it does seem prone to shine rather quickly
BTW, the RF 87u white cases are PBT while the RF 87u black cases are ABS. Not certain about the other models.

My white HHKB has the <ABS> marking on the inner case.

I am pretty sure HHKB are all ABS cases. It is unlikely for them to make HHKB to be all PBT (refer to the case with HHKB Pro and HHKB Pro 2 featuring ABS spacebars). However what is known as a fact is that HHKB Pro JP Type-S was marked on PFU website as ABS for the case material.
As for the question the OP has, I am unsure of an affordable fix for the HHKB. If only one could source spare parts for HHKB at a more affordable rate, I guess one can only resort to gluing or otherwise other means of hacks to avert the issue I guess.
