Does the IBM Model M fully work on a modern PC using a AT to PS/2 adapter?

Not guaranteed. Even though your motherboard has a PS/2 connector it might not be able to supply enough current, something which has been an issue with PS/2 ports on modern motherboards.

Its a pretty "dated" motherboard. Bought on 2009

I thought this "not enough current" thing only applied to USB to PS/2 adapters.
AT and PS/2 are basically the same connector. PS/2 is only smaller.

You start losing current as soon as you leave the source.
Every inch of wire and every mechanical connection causes you to lose something, so you should always strive to keep cable lengths and numbers of connections to a minimum.
That said, I have been pretty lucky, and have used long cables and multiple connectors with few problems.

I recently bought a new PC and my Model M KBs work fine under PS/2 and USB.
Also, I found the standard Model M cable allows for all functions to work as they
should. An (aftermarket) USB cable I bought would not wake my PC; and occasionally
the keyboard would lag. When I went back to the standard Model M cable, the KB
worked with no issues.

my model m will function after booting with the generic (purple end) converter- but no LED's.......
the generic (purple end) works with all my other ps2 boards- no issues
works like a charm with the "ziotec" straight up- immediately :thumb:

I've had no trouble using model Ms on reasonably modern dell desktops with a generic adaptor.

I have a Unicomp Ultra Classic and it's a nice keyboard. Lexmark's buckling-spring switch, licensed by IBM and I was told taken over by Unicomp, is a nice switch. It has a slightly different feel from my original IBM Model Ms, requiring a little less down force to actuate each key; and (to me) the keys feel as if they have a bit more travel than my original Model Ms. Regardless, the keyboards are a good buy and perform flawlessly on older and newer PCs. I first used mine on a five-year-old PC and now on a new Dell desktop. I picked up a black Ultra Classic with gray key caps; it looks great and is not as wide as a traditional Model M; and at $79, it's a good value. I'd use it more of the time if I wasn't so enamored of my RF87U and SSK.

I'm not convinced that purpose one is as generic as you may think. It looks like the excellent ID innovations multimode USB adapter and should perform admirably without issue.
