Title: Typing speed slower when cold?
Post by: C5Allroad on Sun, 09 February 2014, 20:23:18
Is it just me, when it gets under 70° it gets harder to type quickly and accurately?

I've noticed it as well. My typing speed also decreases first thing in the morning. The muscles are still "sleeping"  :p

yep.  why wouldn't they?

your fingers are powered by muscles.  muscles don't operate at '100%' when they are dehydrated, cold, broken, when their partner bones are broken, being broken down, when deprived of glucose or oxygen, etc.

also, i've personally noticed that when i don't get enough sleep, i also type alot slower + more errors.  it's actually one of my 'did i get enough sleep tests' lol

I used to live in Tibet, with no central heat.  I had a small portable heater that I would put on my desk to blow across my hands while I typed!

Oh ok. Lol.
A heater in Miami would kill us. I'm not even sure if I have a heater in my home...

Just wait 5 minutes, that'll change...

I would love the cold.... Snow+Audi= skidding fun. When I picked up my car in New York it was snowing and the car had all season tires on it... Needless to say, I wouldn't mind some cold.

My friend crashed my Honda Civic into a tree skidding in the snow a few weekends ago. So yeah, not a big fan of the snow/cold at the moment.

Can't wait for spring...

Well on the streets it's no fun. It's actually nerve racking.
My traction control was being to intrusive and I bumped into someone. Just a little scratch on my rear bumper.
Traction control is annoying. It wouldn't give the power I was expecting when I did a neutral dump into drive.
It's too hot here...

I spent Christmas with my brother-in-law's family in Alaska.  Their Volvo AWD wagon with snow tires was freaking unbelievable.  Never skidded once.  And I wasn't really cold, compared to other places I've lived in China.

...a neutral dump into drive? Seriously?

Edit: Sorry, I reread through your post again. It was even stupider the second time.

First of all...how did you damage your rear bumper if your traction control was being "too intrusive"?
If you're dumb enough to rev an automatic transmission in neutral and dump it into drive, I don't think you are qualified to comment on the traction control of your vehicle.

Really complaining about cold at 50°F above?  You must never have lived up north.  Yesterday morning it was -25°F and was business as usual for the kids to school/daycare.

The reason why is traction control wouldn't give the power I needed to go forward lol. Prior to that I drove a wrx and same patch of ice, but in that I was able to dump the clutch.
The guy driving his range rover was coming up the bend, I was skidding down it. He was on the my lane since there wasn't as much ice.
I turned the car was now sideways. Car wouldn't go into gear ( this was when the tranny ECU got wet from the rain and drainage channels on roof being clogged by leaves. The car was sitting for 3 months before I picked it up.) The tranny was going to pulled out anyway.. So I had to dump into drive. The only way I was able to sorta drift it out of the way... I slid past his right side and a nicely sized scratch, more like a dent and some paint on my car.
It was either skid into his front end or try to go around him. AWD works wonders sometimes.

Ha, I'm in the hospital in Philly watching the morons outside on the street slip and slide...it's kindof fun!

It wasn't intentional jerk off.
Do you really think that I would put myself in risk just to slide a car?
The other driver was coming up on my lane, whst do you expect to do?

Whoa, dude, I'm so sorry that I offended you.  I meant no offense, and I apologize.  The folks outside aren't wrecking their cars and noone's getting hurt, and I should have made that clear.  People getting killed in auto accidents are no joking matter, I agree.  Feel free to shoot me a PM if you need to.

I find cold weather affects my typing. It takes these old digits more time to get going in
this cold New England weather; and, in my instance, this is also attributable to age--ugh!
