I used to play the trumpet... I then moved into a apartment and I don't have a mute. :(That's genuinely sad.I'm not sure if this will work as well for the trumpet but with NY tuba I occasionally rest a fusion on the bell and I can puff as hard as I want and it'll stay quiet. I suppose you could hold one to the bell, but not too hard so it won't hurt your teeth :s

Used to play the alto sax, switched to the baritone sax my junior year in high school. Barry sax was so much more fun to play (although not when marching).I can appreciate not liking marching with a baritone sax.
