I'm looking for some Alps stuff for an upcoming project:
- Alps stabilizers that would fit in this plate (http://i.imgur.com/263P3KW.jpg)
- A 7x Alps spacebar, preferably from a Toshiba T5200 laptop (http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/MTE5NVgxNjAw/z/Q5gAAOxyVLNS-Yr9/$_12.JPG) (or similar)
Thanks!

Looking for a 7x Alps "Dolch" spacebar!
-
I have one but it may not fit the bill.
-
I think it fits the bill well enough for now :). I can find alternatives later. I'll send you a PM.

I have a few Alps spacebars I’d be willing to part with. Let me take a look and see which ones in which colors are 7x [e.g. I have one just like in the picture you posted, from a Mitsubishi laptop, but note that it’s 8x long].
Edit: I have a couple 7x spacebars that take an Alps switch plus costar-style stabilizers. I also have a 7x spacebar from one of these, which takes regular Alps-style stabilizers:
There might be another one that also takes Alps-style stabilizers. What kind of profile are you looking for on the spacebar, or does it matter? And what kind of stabilizers can you use? That spacebar from fohat looks like it matches some very specific keyboard, and is likely not to work with what you have, but it might.

Here’s a Toshiba T5200 that has a 7x spacebar. Plus a lot of other caps. Plus the rest of the keyboard. Plus a whole working computer.

Hi jacobolus! Thanks for the info. I'm not sure what profiles exist in Alps land, but using terminology I know, I'm looking for something closer to Cherry than DSA. I don't yet have the board for which these will be used, but the stabilizers can be seen here: http://i.imgur.com/263P3KW.jpg
Come to think of it, I'm not sure if it will come with Alps stabilizers at all, but that's a bridge I'm willing to wait to cross.
Thank you for the link to the Toshiba. That's just about perfect, though I'd prefer to spend significantly less as I already have the other caps and don't need a working laptop :). It's good to know that this exact spacebar exists though!

Sorry to thread crap - but what is that 60% board and plate?
Thanks :)

So envious! it's exactly what I am in need of. Didn't realise the pcb was red I thought they were white. GLW your search to finding your space bar :)

Thank you kindly :)

Yeah, you have (one of the various types of) Alps-style stabilizer there, so I think you need the spacebars with the regular little rectangular hole that the little plastic insert fits into [ideally w/ the inserts already there :]. I believe that NEC spacebar would work, but it’s white and a DSA-type profile. If you decide you want it, I could probably sell it to you. I’ll try to see if any other spacebars I have are 7x and would work – unfortunately all these various Alps boards used super inconsistent layouts so I have a few 8x, some 6.5x(?), some <6x, at least one that's like 9-10x.
Oh, I also just ordered this from eBay, which I believe should the shape/type of spacebar you want, albeit not the color (maybe you could dye it!):

Awesome, thank you very much for your offer and advice. I'm going to wait for the board and fohat's spacebar to come in, and then I'll revive this thread and ping you once I have more information. There's a chance I'll need to be buying the stabilizers themselves off of someone as well at that point.

Updated OP: looking for Alps stabilizers. Any and all help would be appreciated :-*
(Jacobolus, you've got a PM!)

pls halp

I don’t quite understand what “stabilizers” you need. It looks like the plate already has the little plastic clips and the wires. What do your keycaps look like on the bottom, and what doesn’t work now?
As for the 7x spacebar, I’ve been waiting for that keyboard from ebay to get here so I can take a look and see what shape its spacebar is.

Ah, sorry for the confusion. That's not actually my exact plate. The one I'll have soon won't have stabilizers.
-
So you don’t have the plate yet? Do you have the caps? Where’d you get them from? (If it was another plate-mounted Alps board, then wherever you found them should also have the same little clips and wires).
[You can also harvest some from most plate-mounted Alps boards w/ the same width keys (some Alps switch keyboards use costar-style stabilizers, but not most of them). You can probably find one for about $10-15 shipped on ebay, since you wouldn’t otherwise care about the condition of the keyboard. I’m not sure if there are good sources for just buying the little plastic clips / wires; I bet Matias has some, since they still use those style stabilizers for everything except the spacebar, I believe.]
If you really need, I can probably find some to send to you, but can sometimes be horribly slow about getting to the post office.
-
I don't have the plate yet. It's on it's way from out of the country. It's the Alps plate from a Duckmini V2, a Korean 60%.
The caps I have are from a Toshiba laptop. I posted pictures of them here (http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=19574.msg1240502#msg1240502). I don't have a picture of one of the keys requiring stabilizers, but they use the same kind of stabilizer inserts that I've seen from the other Alps keyboards you're talking about.
If you think I can get a $10-15 board from eBay though, that would be fine by me. Can you give some examples of what I should look out for?
-
Well, to find them for <$15 shipped takes keeping an eye out for a few weeks on ebay, and/or browsing around for stuff that’s mis-named (so that people missed it in their searches).
But as one example, here’s a very good looking condition AEK II for $30 OBO shippped, http://www.ebay.com/itm/161235901370 which not only has all the little stabilizer parts you need, but also has a really nice full set of thick dye-subbed PBT caps, quite nice dampened tactile Alps switches w/ cream colored sliders, and a great build quality case.

Thanks! I worked out a deal with the seller and picked it up.
Alright, I think I have everything I need for now :thumb: Thanks for the help, everyone!
