Title: Typing Test Video
Post by: Shyfe on Tue, 18 February 2014, 17:12:00
I got my Realforce 87U (55g) yesterday and I really like it, so I decided to post a video of me doing a typing test on it.

If anyone would like, I could post videos of me typing on any of my other keyboards too.
Feel free to share yours too!

I really hope linkbane sees this :P

How do you like the 55g, specifically for insanely fast typing? Do you find them too heavy at all, especially compared to 45? Do your hands easily get tired from using them?

Also, any reason you use your left thumb for the spacebar? Just habit? Most people I see use the right hand.

I'm really digging the 55g Topres. However, this might be just due to a superior controller. When typing at fast speeds, the controller on the KBT Oni gives me significant problems and generates a lot of typos that I didn't actually make. I don't really like Cherry keyswitches at all (too light), and I'm actually not sure if I like these more or the buckling springs. They are completely different keyswitches and have their own charms. I know the actuation force of the buckling springs are higher than 55g, but for some reason it feels like these Topres are harder to press than the buckling springs. I find Cherry switches to be way too light. Since I'm a person who prefers heavy keyswitches, I can't say I find these too heavy. My hands don't get tired at all, but I think my fingers are stronger than most from years of typing at fast speeds and heavily.

Very interesting. Thanks.
I think this further proves that lighter switches aren't "better" for typing, as some assert. Force preference is entirely subjective, and different strengths of switches are better suited to different people's fingers, not different activities. Although many people prefer lighter tactile switches for typing, (myself included), I always find it annoying when others put down linears and heavy switches for typing as if they are simply not suited for it.
Anyway, awesome video! That's insanely fast :P
Hope you enjoy your 87U!

lmao you also have some really funny slow-mo videos of a stuffed manatee on your channel--experimenting with the new iPhone's slow-mo mode? :p

@financial looks like qwerty to me (watch the e key)

I actually don't have my Model M with me , but I'll post one on my Unicomp when I have a chance.

It blows my mind that you can type that fast with QWERTY.

Yay, buckling spring goodness! Curious to see the speed with those.

That's really awesome, make me feel kind of shame for also owning a 55g RF, as my typing speed is not even half of yours.  :(

Time to practice.  :)

OP,

i think you're more than qualified to be in some world typing speed test championship or something..  :thumb:

and i'm looking for a 55G Topre board, but i'm ashamed now to get it since i can't even get pass 90 on my 45G Pro2 on my best day.  :))
