So my LG Optimus S is a piece of **** and has been getting worse of late. As such, it's time for me to get a new phone. Since I haven't really kept up on phone tech, I'm lost on what to look at. I know that some of what pops up with phones only really comes from personal experience so feel free to pipe in with anecdotes about models that should be good, but are horrible and vice versa.
Really what I'm looking for is something that isn't as big as my face, that gets decent battery life, and that gets decent reception and data. I was looking at the Galaxy S4 Mini, Samsung ATIV S Neo, and maybe even an iPhone (as much as I'm not an Apple fan), but I'm not sure how they fit into that.

samsung anything imo.

Now that the S5 has been announced, the S4 and S4 mini will probably keep going down in price. They're pretty much industry standard; I've been using galaxy phones since the S4 (epic 4g touch) then the s3, now the s4. I'm gonna wait to see what Apple does for the iPhone 6 before i jump into the S5 though.

They had a sale on the HTC One right around Christmas for ~$30-$50. I got mine for free after rebates. It's been a great phone so far, Netflix is nice and responsive, and battery life is better than most. It may be bigger than what you were looking for though.

Get an HTC One or a Nexus 5! They're all great phones. The new One is going to come out in a month (presumably), though. :/

I'm kind of enamored with the idea of the Nexus line. Straight-up google phone for 350? no contract? noice

i'd go with the galaxy s4 or s5.
because a) removable battery and b) expandable memory.
and a personal c) i can't destroy this phone. i've dropped it MANY times and it's still kicking.
