Title: Ergo Keyboard spotters guide (Wheel of Keyboards!)
Post by: hoggy on Tue, 25 February 2014, 11:39:16
I thought it would be nice to build up a gallery of lots of ergo keyboards - one that would be useful to browse if you wanted to identify a keyboard, or maybe even find one that you might find useful.

Boards

Boards are listed/grouped so they are close to each other if they look like each other.  They are not ordered by merit.

That's a really sweet (& clean) board.

Does anyone know this one?

Hint:
More
The make and model of the keyboard are on the front, so I've used the photo that doesn't show the board off in all it's glory.
It uses alps and was made a company that's still popular today.

[edit]I'll reveal the name this Friday (28th Feb)

Does it count if we didnt know it beforehand but were able to figure it out using clever search-fu?

bytheway, I had some ideas and my guess was right on the manufacturer.

KB uses legit green alps (http://deskthority.net/wiki/Alps_SKCL_Green) with a white for the spacebar.

Does anyone want to spin the wheel? I'm sure we could manage with a few boards to ID at the same time.

Can I make a suggestion that there be a little citation of where the pictures are from in the OP? :D

As an aside, I am looking forward to the day a Maltron keyboard will show up to my door unannounced. A Kinesis would also be acceptable. This is in no way a subtle hint.

Also interesting that the Japanese reviewer on that page you linked, hoggy, really disliked the switches the board came with. [clicky green Xiang Min KSB switches? Or did they start out white and the pictured green switches are older linear SKCL Alps he transplanted?]

I love the Google translate summary of the feel after the SKCL green Alps made it in there:
Quote
There is no click-clack feeling inherent in the simple switch of course. In ALPS old mechanical axis and famous highest peak is expected, there is not even love of one minute. This sense of stability does not come true also CHERRY axis. If you are using only this or that ... be keying feeling better than MX5000, and from formed a guy maybe, MX5000 has been gathering dust in the corner of the room. It is a feeling for joy that was disguised as good unexpected somehow, you want to regular for a while. [...]

The sound of keystrokes when is comfortable without even resonate to it is fairly quiet when compared to the MX5000. Keystroke sound MX5000 When you have to be a high-pitched sound of "plock! Plock!", The sound of feeling such as "Tanttan~tsu" It is the impression docile very quiet and green axis Stealth and the continuous keying. This is really all right. The lack of high-pitched sound even with the bottom is very good. Image of feel like, how long out the sound will be collapsed completely mechanical that exists in general. ... It is the feeling that I want to try also mute white axis to become this.

It was thought it might be useless because some, such as first of making the housing to just transplant the switch, but was totally groundless. Existence, really great. [...]

Oh, that's right. Is the best. Key top iron plate mount and keying sense, two-color molding moist and green axis of ALPS, ergo, a ten-less. And I have made changes to the keyboard ideal Oira was jam-packed. It is hoped that doing it put your hands more in the future, we want to further pursue the ideal.

Also, wow, he got that used Filco ergo thingy for 4000 Yen (currently ~$40), and a used Sharp X68000 keyboard for 2000 Yen (~$20) to harvest the green Alps switches from. Not bad!
