I'm not sure if this space is meant for just keyboard or computer related finds but Massdrop has a pretty decent group buy for a Feather razor and blade pack. I have the non-folding version and it's the best razor I've tried that doesn't involve maintaining a blade. Level up your shaving game, ladies and gents.

I've only seen slant bar razors from Merkur, never tried one.

what actually makes it so expensive?

When I first read this, I was really hoping it was something to do with these guys:

jonathanyu, the razors are constructed really well and very light. The general consensus on wet shaving forums is that Feather blades are some of the sharpest that you can find which results in closer shaves and reduces the chances of skin irritation (it comes down to your technique).
xmagusx, I like where you're going with this.

Would rather just use a non disposal blade straight razor myself.

I think it's interesting for someone scared of a straight razor, but really, maintaining a straight razor is super easy. Stropping and oiling takes a minute each shave. For this one, you will need to change the blade when done. The longest part when shaving is lathering and face preparation, not maintaining the razor itself.
Yet it can be nice for those that prefer to buy these blades.
