I would advise those CONUS to bid no higher than -$66.66. Yup, negative sixty six dollars and sixty six cents.

non-ANSI layout; Shipping from Chile quoted at $100.

I never saw the attraction of the 120-esque models with no LEDs.

Lack of LEDs (I know, easy to do with the Teensy) is mildly bothersome on my modded Fs (numlock is permanently engaged unless I accidentaly turn it off with another keyboard, in which case I would like to know) but Caps Lock is an occasional nuisance.

The oldest models are very nice with the heavy plates, I will give you that, but a 120 looks like a part donor to me.

FFS, not this idiot again.

Now he's claiming his was the first one found with it.

At least he's not using my name in his listing this time.

somebody should collate all plate statistics for all commonly used keyboard models, then post them in a sticky.

anyone who wants a metal plate can just get his local metal shop to do one. those who are crazy about metal plates can easily get their custom six inch metal plates if they so wish. Their keyboards will be bullet proof, bomb proof and rocket proof, assuming they can lift the keyboard up to block incoming attacks.

I"ve always been curious about buying a 1390120 because they reputedly 'feel better', but I'm a bit disapproving of the public obsession with metal plates and metal keyboard casings. The standard coolermaster is pretty well built already.

I would love a metal case for an IBM

The 1390131 is the same as the 1390120 except that it has the LEDs.

So all 120s have these or just this one?

There's one for everyone!

I prefer the 1390120 and LED'less keyboards. It's got to the point that I don't wire them up anymore. Of course my incoming lightsaver will be an exception.

I don't know if it is the first one found. I got me 1390120 in the mail long before he posted his auction or joined GH. I just didn't think the oscillator was significant enough to warranty mention.

Heres my favourite line:
Quote
To put some perspective on the issue this keyboard is even rarer than SSK, Industrial and M15 put together.
That's like saying the SSK is rarer than the SSK, industrial and M15 put together, since there are more of those three items than there are of just the one.

Also he says it's spanish iso, but I think spanish has the non-bit paired number row. This looks like a chilean layout to me, with the ( and ) moved over as it was in the olde bit-paired days.

I love how Mandolin is still trying to offload this for way more than it's worth.  At least it's not the almost $2k he wanted before, though the $100 shipping on top of the inflated price is hilarious.  GThis time he's also including the SDL cable, so I guess he's got that going for it too.  When he tried selling it for $2k, the cable was not included.

My favorite part from his last attempt to sell it (http://www.ebay.com/itm/RAREST-IBM-Model-M-clicky-Keyboard-ever-only-6-known-MANDOLIN-CRYSTAL-/181198150550?pt=US_Vintage_Computing_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2a30405b96&nma=true&si=Qgkegcd28KB9Z9G1WdiSqsBuPEo%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557) is the condition: "Stored carefully and in excellent condition. As if Mother Teresa would've taken care of it."

I guess he doesn't know how poorly Mother Teresa took care of people.

People?  Sure.  But she was a stickler for proper computer hardware maintenance.

I believe he said he would sell it at discount to a GH'er.

Sure, I'd also be willing to autograph it.

Still a ridiculous price for a Model M, even if you dropped it down to $200 shipped.

And Ripster has a bug up his ass when it comes to Geekhack.  He's like that stage 5 clinger girlfriend who you break up with, but they still can't stop obsessing about you.

I don't know. It's an uncommon layout, in fantastic shape, with some neat features (that mirror finish on the plate: I don't know if I've seen it elsewhere) Most of those would drive the price up significantly from what a normal M or even a normal 1390120 would cost. I only buy steeply discounted model Ms or I'd be interested in this one.

B'sides, I already have a few with the crystal. ;)

That sums it up. I have half a dozen crystals too. I'll offer them shipped anywhere in the world at the cheap price of $2000.00+shipping and fees. Buyer has to extract these rare crystals himself from the Model M though.

I always tell people, this is a hobby and I don't believe in profiteering.  ;D

I would love a metal case for an IBM

The 1390131 is the same as the 1390120 except that it has the LEDs.

I would also love one. After reading about those steam-punk keyboards that you posted about [not sure who was the thread starter,] I fell in love. I emailed one of the companies and they can do it but it will be very expensive. More metal the better, I say.
