Title: Soft Landing Pads & O-Rings
Post by: morpheus on Tue, 04 March 2014, 06:45:42
Hi guys,

Just wondering which ones would feel better on (I know it's subjective) on an MX Blue board...

Soft Landing Pads from EK or O-Rings from WASD? or both simultaneously?

How do you use it, if at all?

Thanks and let me know your opinion.

I am currently testing this, both blue and red O-rings vs. SLP. I will come back later with my opinion.

Even so, I am afraid this is a matter of taste, so my opinion is most likely irrelevant.

I tried the red O-rings from the WASD sampler set a while back and I liked them the most.
There happen to be 2 types of SLP, a gray thick one, and a black thin one.
Which SLP would be closer to the Red O-rings in your opinion?

I like the soft landing pads with blue Cherries, but not any others (I haven't had green but it would probably be the same).

Otherwise, I recommend the thinnest and softest O-rings for all the others.

I think my pads were thin and black.

Also, pads and O-rings are totally different in every way.

Oh, I am sorry. I only have the black SLP.

I was looking to get these Red O-Rings from WASD

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Cherry-MX-Keycap-Rubber-O-Ring-Switch-Dampeners-40A-L-125pcs/121274155402?_trksid=p2045573.c100033.m2042&_trkparms=aid%3D111000%26algo%3DREC.RVI%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D21021%26meid%3D5250313410637714305%26pid%3D100033%26prg%3D9336%26rk%3D0%26rkt%3D4%26sd%3D121274155402

But I noticed there were some knock off versions here:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/120pcs-Keycap-Rubber-O-Ring-Switch-Dampeners-RED-For-CHERRY-MX-Free-Shipping-/261268631414?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cd4d2ef76

Are these the same as the WASD ones, or they poorly constructed?

Knock off? Huh? O-rings have been around for ages, you can probably find them in a number of sizes and materials in your local hardware shop or at some place that has parts for RC models. It's not like WASD have invented them or anything.

Anyway, EK's soft-landing pads make sharply tactile switches actually usable for me, o-rings not so much.

I had no idea O-rings have been around for ages.

So, do you think these Ebay ones are the same quality as the ones WASD sells?

I don't know off the top of my head, but I think WASD claim to use some more durable material. You can probably find more somewhere around here. You have to ask yourself, whether it's worth it for you, or not... mostly because you can make your own dampeners almost for free.
