I'm surprised the blacks or clears bothered anyone, they seem pretty quiet to me.

I think you recalibrated your co-workers' ears when you brought in all those other keyboards.  I think now they just think the MX Reds are quiet enough.  Good idea honestly.

My wife got zero complaints from her Filco with blacks.  But her work enviroment is fairly noisy with the machinery running.  She works in a photo lab that does all sorts of stuff, from banners to posters, to metal prints to mouse pads.

I've used blues, greens and blacks at work.  People only seem to notice the backlighting and custom keycaps.

I was doing something repetitive one day, and someone actually said the sound of typing was hypnotic.

I suspect the only reason they comment on the noise of your board is because they're not doing any work, so notice more that you are.  :))

Congratulations on finding a keyboard that you can use at your office!  :thumb:

I was on a similar quest about a year ago and I found the audio of a mechanical is dependent upon both the switch as well as the key cap and even the case. Thick PBT sound noticeably different than thin ABS for example and a case that lays flat on my desk is noticeably quieter as well.

Personally, I'm using MX-Black with the SA profile from Commando 23, which sounds very muted compared to the Round 3 set I used previously and since I'm on the phone a good bit, I think I have it really dialed in for a quiet mechanical keyboard for my office.

What about the concept that if people hear the key clicks they know that you are working?

Interestingly, my WASD KB (browns) is too loud, but my pingmaster KB is acceptable.

I hate the fact that the browns are quieter than the RDs everyone else uses.

When I first got my filco with browns at job, my director was not so happy because of the sound. So I told him I would get O-rings and it would be much better. I did and never had any complaint.

Recently I bought a F122 and since I fell in love with it, I decided to bring it to the job. I was scared someone would complain about it, but they must have accepted that I have a keyboard hobbyist and I got no complaint at all. Some people even found my F122 "cool", others just considered my weird, but only because of the look of the keyboard, not the sound.

I suspect that my F122 is intimidating everyone so they don't dare complain about it lol!

ha!

one of the things i would hear with my other boards is how sorry a typist i am.......thank you and your mothers mustache too scooter

brutha can't get a break

i mean we do have a life, i get it.........and this may sound tedious- but come on...........getta life

people can be a trip. i have my own office, yet somebody down the hallway takes the initiative to comment on a keyboard. guess it broke their concentration and woke them up :))

anybody know what the loudest our out there?

i like that (dorkvader)..........my F122 must be intimidating everybody :thumb:
