They have a long tradition of smoking weed there :)

in uzbekistan, if you want to smoke weed, you don't even bother to make a joint. you just burn the nearby hemp field!

In Oslo(I don't live there, far from it), if you want to do drugs, you just make skin-to-skin contact with people who frequent parks.

As they said in the cartoon, it's based on a tale by Ray Bradbury and very haunting. When I read this story I was creeped out, most especially by the imagery of the family silhouettes.
Am surprised the Soviets actually turned this piece of anti-nuke capitalist propaganda into a cartoon. Aren't they indoctrinating their people with the wrong thoughts? Maybe it was the Uzbekistan studio subtly critiquing the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan.

Actually Soviet Union was officially against war, nukes and all bad stuff. And was arming only because other side was bad, bad people and warmongers :) Well... the other side actually was telling their people the same tale.
Ahem.
So they translated a good deal of good Sci-Fi at that time. Mainly from such authors as Bradbury who was pacifist. So.. it wasn't subtle critic of anything. It's just a good cartoon. And a warning to all us.

Considering what has happened in the years since 1991, I think the Soviets were right :p.
Thanks to having no USSR to counter the USA, the US has invaded and bombed anybody it felt like.
We're in for a very uncomfortable unipolar world now. When the US economy recovers from recession and they start having more money, I'm pretty sure they will look for somebody else to pick on.

Well... bipolar world means that TWO superpower gets to invade and bomb enemy soldiers on the territory of other countries. Like Vietnam and Afghanistan. So I don't know what is better :)
