My SO beat it in 2 days. It did keep him entertained and amused for those 2 days though.

'SO' ?

Yeah I'm having fun with it, about 9 hours or so in. If you like the humor of South Park then it's pretty great... though performance on the PS3 is pretty poor with huge frame drops when changing scenes etc which is a real shame

Europe has a similar problem, but it's pretty easy to get around on the PS3 side of things, becasue you can just make a US PSN account listing the white house as your address and then buy US PSN gift cards, that's what I did and it worked a charm for me. Silly thing is you can even logout of your US account and back into your EU one and the download will continue ^^

the TBA is very basic, it looks like it could have been a very high end iphone game instead, BUT if you're a fan of south park, it's ****ing great. Butters really is OP, but honestly i just like turning into prof chaos, it's fun.

i mean put it into perspective what game based on a tv show is actually fun?

i remember playing the south park game 17 years ago. it was like my (then gf) wife's and i first "multiplayer" with another couple. i bought 2 ****ty N64 controllers from blockbuster... right bumper didn't work unless you bashed it against your leg.

we played this ****ty game for a hour and went, wtf is this chicken ****? but then we liked playing 4 player games and bought bomberman64 and proceeded to see which couple's relationship could stand bombs to the face!

Sometimes the drawn sprites don't show up and I just get the background with everything else invisible. Also the lip synching seems to inevitably get messed up after playing a while. These are both fixable(at least for me) by relaunching the game as admin straight from the folder.

What does break the game is some of those stupid unskippable fart training sequences. I must've spent 20 minutes on that goddamn sneaky squeaker bull****. They do a piss poor job of telling you how to do the moves, it's never like what they show you.

I originally started with the thief class, but it glitched out during the asinine training sessions, so switched to the fighter class with no real issues (pc version).  My gf and I have enjoyed it so far (a few hours into day 2) but I don't think there will much immediate replay value (unless the different classes have different storylines, but it doesn't seem like it during training).

There's a part where the game just stops like 10 minutes in or something in a tutorial sequence thing. I watched the video, you hit a dude and he fell on his knees or something and just stays there. He does the typical "damaged person" animation, but never gets up, and you can't do anything after that. Stuck.

Because of a screw up by Ubisoft I'm atm not legally able to get the game.

They seemed to have missed to censor a swastika in the German version (or maybe they unintentionally put the uncensored version in the box) and pulled it from stores. The same goes for the digital version, you can't download it from Steam.

Unnecessarily the same applies for the Austrian market despite different laws that in fact allows swastikas and other Nazi-Symbols in games. Germans actually buy/order uncensored version of games from Austrian stores.

That really pisses me of.

Sometimes it's hard wanting to be a paying customer.

Edit: New release date: 27.03.2014

Yeah, tbh it would have been a fair bit of work to remove them though as they do feature quite heavily and are linked to a string of jokes. It's unfortunate how laws have been passed in regards to things like this, especially in Germany... but yeah, you can't really just cover up swastika's and play the game like that... it would require re-doing voice over and the re-writing of some of the main plot points.

Tbh I'm pretty annoyed at Ubi for even having an Euro and Australian version that censors things based on random countries rating systems... I wish they had just had to balls to put the game out as it was in the US and just had it put on the countries... but meh

Why are people so touchy about symbols like that? Only the people who watch videos or play the game will see it, and since it's a South Park game I think people know what they're getting into, same with other games.

They already did the work for the German version and covered up all the swastikas and stuff with "black bars" but they seemed to have missed one (or a few).
Not the first time that happen, Wolfenstein (2009) also pulled from stores because they discovered that they had missed some small swastika.
The manual for my German RtCW version has a with a pen blacked out swastika.

Ofc people are pissed that they have to wait another 2 weeks although the new version could already be on Steam.

I completely agree on that.

PEGI actually gave the uncensored version a PEGI-18 rating but Ubisoft resubmitted the censored version which still got a PEGI-18 rating. I guess Ubisoft hoped for a PEGI-16 rating. Therefor there was no need to release the censored version in Europe.

ahh I didn't know that... and yeah Ubi is a pretty all-round awful company. That said it's still pretty easy to get a US version (like I did) and play it with no troubles

It's understandable that Germany and Austria are rather picky about that part of their history and I kind of support that free speech is limited in this area.
Imho the specific law in Germany isn't well written.
In general the usage of Nazy-symbols is illegal with a few exceptions:

"(3) Subsection (1) shall not be applicable if the means of propaganda or the act serves to further civil enlightenment, to avert unconstitutional aims, to promote art or science, research or teaching, reporting about current historical events or similar purposes. […]"

Movies for example are considered a form of art so you can show them in them but games aren't considered art by a court yet.
Many experts think that if you would go to court you would win but the problem is that nobody does because they understandably fear the bad PR from such a move (Headline: "Ubisoft wants your kids to play Nazi Games").

Austrian law is quite similar but imho better written when it comes to exceptions:

Usage of Nazi symbols is allowed in print, pictures, stage production, films or exhibitions as long as it doesn't support that body of thought.

That law is from 1960 so it doesn't account for modern media but I'm pretty sure it would also apply for games.

Maybe on consoles but on PC you would have to use VPN/Proxy and risk your Steam account. So I would rather buy the game and play a "illegally downloaded" version.

I read in a review that although the black bars fit the style of the series the amount of it gets annoying and that they would have preferred if they simply exchanged them for some other symbols (that's how it's usually done).

Yeah, though I kinda feel like they wanted to take some kind of general stance on censorship... which is fair enough... and isn't the game retail on PC? But yeah pirating it would be the easiest way I guess

You still have to activate the retail version on Steam, so it doesn't make a difference.

PS: I indeed like how the studio did the censorship they were forced to do, especially the crying koala but I can understand that a large amount of black bars can get annoying.

Well, it took almost exactly 20hrs to do/see/collect/unlock everything the first playthrough, which is $3.25 an hr. Not a bad value, and you get about 8-12hrs of just playing the main story which is on par with a lot of other modern titles. I think because it's an RPG(of sorts) people expect more content. There's a few things I missed that you can only do at certain points in the game (friend Clyde, the Nazi Zombie police quest) but they weren't enough to make me want to playthrough again immediately. I also wish there were more/any character customization options for your party members.

There's also a lot of locked-off places, like the mall/many of the houses/a glitched out area in Canada that is unfinished, so there's going to be DLC. It would be really cool if the first DLC were free to people who paid full price but Ubisoft probably won't be that nice. Also, the DLC better ****ing have Towlie and more Mr. Garrison in it, or so help me....
