Hey, I'm from the US, which means I don't know anything about rail travel. I've been searching for information about this route for an anniversary trip to Europe this summer with my wife.
Can anyone help me figure out where to buy tickets, what's the timetable, etc.? Thanks in advance!

while I know nothing of this train a good place to look would be the Termini Station site, its the biggest station in Rome and connects the over-land trains to there small underground system;

If you're starting out from France, then you will want to look on sncf.com. It will tell you all about the French rail service and you can buy tickets there.

This sounds like something I may like to do when visiting Europe, that I hope should be next year. Please post your findings, they may enlight us all!

I feel like if your a non euro trying to 'do Europe' is pretty silly and you'd have more fun spending like 3 weeks in 2-3 places...

If you are traveling around EU I would suggest you check http://www.interrail.eu/
It is fairly cheap but you might want to check if you can use it as US citizen.

The French website to book train tickets is http://www.voyages-sncf.com/
I think reservations only open 3 months in advance. I'm not sure you can use this site from the US though.

Thanks everyone for the tips. One of the things I love about GH is the international audience; I knew you guys wouldn't let me down!
