Title: Model M wrist pain
Post by: Littlewoodenguy on Sat, 15 March 2014, 11:24:04
Hello I recently got my first true model m. I had a unicomp a few years ago but sold it before a move. I really like the bouncy keys (of course) but I'm getting pain in my right wrist. At work I use a http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/en-us/p/sculpt-comfort-desktop/L3V-00001 (http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/en-us/p/sculpt-comfort-desktop/L3V-00001) which I never have problems with. The differences are two things:

1) the slight curve to the keys
2) the sculpt keyboard has flip-up feet in the front so I can get a negative keyboard slope

What do you guys do for ergonomics with model m's? I'd like to get a wooden wedge or maybe a keyboard tray that will allow me to give the m a negative slope. I'd really prefer a wedge because I like to have my keyboard on my desk and don't really like trays, but I'm willing to try one. Otherwise I'll sadly just have to sell it. Does anyone make something like a desktop keyboard tray or are there trays you would recommend?

Thanks

If you type a lot, and don't use the mouse all that often, then try placing the keyboard on your lap...

Mouse with your left for a while?  It'll take a bit of getting used to - probably a few days.

Do you use a wrist pad? I've always used one for keyboards, but I get wrist pain when using a mouse wrist pad.

My keyboard at work has a built in wrist rest. I thinking of getting a wrist rest as well as some way to get a negative tilt on the keyboard and hoping that together those will solve my issues. I think the negative tilt is more important than the curve.

One thing that helped reduce my wrist pain with flat keyboards was getting a Rollermouse.  It really reduces the stress and movement on your wrist.
