does the numlock key only affect the kinesis unit or does it change the state of other keyboards plugged in as well? thanks!!

The numlock key on the Kinesis only affects the Kinesis unit; it does not affect other keyboards plugged into a PC. This behavior is reciprocal in that the numlock key on other keyboards does not affect the numlock state of the Kinesis unit.

Have you checked this? When I had two keyboards plugged in simultaneously, caps lock would be toggled for both keyboards (couldn't check num lock because one keyboard was a Poker II), but it seemed like that information for the toggle locks is stored on the computer?

Yes I checked this yesterday with the Kinesis keypad and my wife's Microsoft natural keyboard (I only have tenkeyless). I don't know what happens when two full keyboards are attached to the same computer.
