This time seller refurbed

According with your experience, how high its price is going to be at the end of the auction?

Now that its on great finds and its seller refurbed, $300ish. Recently there's been an influx of $200ish SSKs here on GH so the prices are going down a bit

That is why I have never ever thought in getting one, just out of my league. :p

Yea I don't really dig SSKs
Its small and portable but
1. You won't be taking it everywhere as its pretty heavy, bulky, and lould
2. Its not very good for gaming as its 2kro
-
Well whoever put the first bid put more than $50 (which was my max).

I put down $50 to get the ball rolling

Plastic rivets are replaced by metal bolts
The original IBM keyboards were built like tanks, except for plastic rivets holding the metal plate on inside.
Over time those rivets would fall off one by one until the keyboard turns mushy.
A common upgrade is to slice off the heads of any remaining rivets, drill the holes out, and put small bolts through to keep the plate and other bits firmly held together for another 30 years.

nowhere in the ad does it say it's bolt modded. don't be misled, guys!

Why do you say the SSK is 2KRO? Is that something peculiar to SSKs or is it true of Model Ms in general? I always thought the PS/2 connector was superior to USB in that it allows more rollover combinations - but does the Model M not take advantage of that?

The bolt modded is the one sold by Bro Caps, not the ebay one - I asked because Bro Caps post mentioned it.

That is my bad, I had to shuffle some posts around.

The SSK has a membrane as the actual keyborad matrix and is 2KRO like almost all membrane keyboards.
I recommend reading this page about kb matrix circuits
http://www.dribin.org/dave/keyboard/one_html/
Basically, there's only continuity (or lack thereof) between the nodes, and no place for diodes (or something exotic, like the microsoft sidewinder kb uses)
PS/2 has the bandwidth to support NKRO for keyboards, whereas "full speed" USB 1.1 only supports 6 key and a few modifers. USB 2.0 supports enough for NKRO, but isn't common in keyboards.
so for a KB to have NKRO, it has to have an NKRO compatible circuit, an NKRO compatible controller, and use an NKRO compatible protocol. The SSK only has the latter. Many USB keyboards have the first two. My current keyboard (IBM F 122 with soarer's converter) has all three.
hope this helps.

And how about XT keyboard?

Saying 2kro makes an M a poor keyboard for gaming is simply wrong. It has zero impact the vast majority of the time.
For those who don't know, 2kro is the *minimum* keys you'll get correctly pressed, not including modifiers. You'll usually get more. I've gotten 16 at once through a native ps/2 port and should be able to get 22 keys pressed and registered correctly if the controller can handle it.
Through most USB converters today that drops to 6, which is more than enough.
The XT is NKRO but you'd need a converter like a soarer to use it with a modern computer.

At which point you might as well for an AT or F122 for the nicer layouts.

Yep, but there scarce any AT to be found.

Just not at a price you want to pay ^-^
BTW AT is VERY HEAVY. I suggest you buy and cart around two CoolerMaster Quickfire TKs. Cheaper, and lighter, and you can have two switch types to swap from versus just one F AT. :))

Price ain't so bad... it's the shipping that the real killer. So my only chances are to find one in Europe.
Cooler Master TK's not so bad, really :)

Literally nothing is like a true BS though....

Another SSK?
Is that a challenge?
Busy cleaning 3 of the ones I already have :)

They go for a lot less when they aren't noticed here. I saw one go for $91 last week.

Can you link to this? I have looked through eBay history and have not seen any go for less than $250.

There's a couple on eBay now (at least last time I looked) for $200.

I doubt many cool boards aren't noticed here. Seriously. But... all happens :)

Lots of cool boards don't get posted here. Where do you think HaaTa and I get all our neat KB stuff?

I need to get out more - $91 for SSK is more like my kind of price :p

True! I just bought an 1386303 with "buy now" before anyone noticed

I have an F-122 from that same date! Is this one a terminal variant of the 1390120?

Considering the date and lack of LED's I'd have to say yes.
It's a Display Station 3161 keyboard.

The 1386303 is the very first model M (along with the 1386304), even before the first industrials. Killerbee on GH had the oldest known M at one time (june 10 1985! (http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=11311.msg217468#msg217468)). This KB in the OP is a rather late sample for a 1386303, just to give an idea as to it's age. I believe they may have been discontinued by the end of 1985.
By the way, I could be totally wrong about the production, as that one seller had those NIB (?) 1386304's from 1991.

Oh dam thats sweet

How come no one is buying Bro Caps' super nice SSK? Am I the only one noticing it?

Too expensive for me (even excluding shipping) :(
-
Yeah, I'm just so afraid of the shipping cost because it's so heavy!

Even if you choice USPS, it still 60 bucks.
-
When I bought Code keyboard, shipping was already $50! I think SSK is more than that.

I'm going to have to beg to differ on that point.

One went today for $152, not "restored" with no cord:

That is US$, converts to about AU$168.69, and then add some silly postage amount, usually around $80 on top of that :(

If you noticed my modifier has been carefully places (instead of misplaces) so you can take my statement to mean that at one time (not necessarily now) he had the oldest M on GH (which was certainly true). Now it's possibly not the oldest and he no longer has it, so my statement stands as written.
I just know someone would show up with their pedantry.

To be honest, I'm not sure why people in the market for a ssk don't just "watch" hyderconsulting's store.
