Guys, just a heads up for any of you that might be buying blank black keys from Unicomp...
I just got around to replacing the gray keycaps that came on my Unicomp Spacesaver the other day with the new set of blank black keys that came bundled with the same keyboard.
When I first opened the keyboard box, I was a bit disappointed to see that the blank keys were all tossed into a single bag, labeled, and then shipped that way. I thought about how it would be terribly easy for one or more of the keycaps to become broken in some way, or really scratched up because of them all rubbing against each other for countless miles during shipping and handling.
Well, it happened! When I went to put the spacebar in place, it was immediately apparent that one of the small clips that hold the wire lever in place on the spacebar itself was broken. I went forward with the assembly and when I got to the bottom of the keycaps bag, sure enough lying there in the bottom of the bag was the broken off piece.
I'm not sure if I can get a replacement blank black spacebar without buying a whole new bag of caps ($20), and even then it could be broken the same way once received. I'm guessing that Unicomp receives these caps from their supplier already bagged. If they make them at their shop, perhaps a spacebar replacement will be very simple. I'll find out one way or the other on Monday morning and will report back on how the replacement goes.

To update... I spoke with Jim Owens today and he said he'd immediately pop a new spacebar into todays mail. As usual, he was extremely nice to deal with and completely understanding about the entire matter.
You can't beat the folks at Unicomp!

As usual, Jim Owens (and Unicomp) came through with flying colors once again. I received my replacement blank keys spacebar from Jim today. The transaction was speedy and with no questions asked.
Unicomp is a superb company to deal with, at least from my own experience with them.

Yeah, I have nothing but good things to say about Unicomp as well.
None of the black keys I got were broken, I just had one extra numpad "+" or "enter" key instead of a regular letter key.
I emailed Jim, and he sent me TWO letter keys, no questions asked.
I will definitely deal with Unicomp again.
