I would be interested in 2 or 3.
What are the chances it would work with the Ducky Shine 2 and CM XT?
Hmm, I actually don't use my fullsize boards anymore, but I might buy a plate just because :p
Will the price be in the ~40$ area like the TKL plates?

I'd be interested in at least one. Anyone have any guesses if a wasd v1, leopold or a das keyboard would be compatible.
Interested. I have a Ducky DK9008G2 and my brother has a Shine III. I'd probably get two assuming you think these would be compatible JD. Is a top-down photo of the plate without the top case sufficient for you to tell?

Yes, that should do. Just make sure the keycaps are off, of course. If there are any screws which hold the plate to the case, please remove those as well.
why not have the plate pre-cut instead? It should not be a problem to use it on the Ducky with the 3 compatibility cuts, right? While being pre cut it would save Filco, Rosewill, CM etc owners the trouble of cutting.
I think most people don't have metal cutting tools.
Would that work for the 108-key models? A small little separate 4-key plate to go along with the 104-key main plate? I can do that if it would work, but I don't have a 108 to test it on. I think about half the orders will be from people who want this for a Ducky, it seems. But to make it usable without cutting for the 104-key folks, I could design it as two pieces. What do you guys think, would that be an acceptable compromise solution?
I think we can get these for around $30 plus shipping, if we can get close to 40 orders.
Will this be done through Strict also, or someone else?
Will this be done through Strict also, or someone else?
I'm not sure yet. I guess it depends on if I need to find someone to take the lead, if someone volunteers, or if no one wants to run it. ;)
BTW, I'm open to volunteers.

JD,
Have you decided if they will be aluminum or stainless yet?
I got a favorable quote via email from one of the laser cutters here in town. I tried to go by the shop friday afternoon but the sales guy had already left for the day. I am going to try to get in touch with him tomorrow about getting a prototype done.
What would you all think about something like this? I call it the One Plate:Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/3GIbOoM.png)
One Plate to rule them all, One Plate to count them,
One Plate to accept them all, and on the keyboard mount them
A little Dremel work, and this plate replaces the stock plates for most 108, 104, and 87-key keyboards.

So....what are the odds the right side numberpad would fit a 4x5 ghpad?

Excellent idea! Would there be any need to tweak the design to allow for different space bar offsets?
I don't really think so, unless there was some demand from Phantom users for the offset 6.25-unit spacebar and Caps Lock. When you try to add 7-unit spacebar support for Phantom, you run into the problem of not being able to use plate mounted stabs, which are required by all the keyboards this plate is designed to drop into.

Hey jd, if you do add these holes for 60%, think you could also add holes to the numpad area to allow mounting of the 4x5 ghpad?
Yes, exactly. and I just got through putting together this beautiful image to demonstrate:Show Image(http://i967.photobucket.com/albums/ae156/jbedwell81/ghpad_zps0bac4919.jpg)
LOL
What if it was made like this? You probably could do something like that, but it would be pretty hard to do it "right" without bending the holes where switches are. Much better to cut or file.
(Attachment Link)
Could the top right area just be bent back and forth until it breaks? Or am I underestimating the strength of the material??
Would this plate work on Shine 2's for custom tkl alu/full acrylic cases?
I'd be down for two if they do.
Whats our next step?
Damn Damn Damn!
I forgot about this thread somehow, and sent off my stuff to Margo for modding purposes. Now I won't be able to take scans and measurements for this project.
Hehheh, got it.
I'll ask Margo to do the work instead. Hopefully he'll get the PCBs a couple months from now.
They don't depict the metric **** ton of standoffs they will need to keep them at a fixed distance though.
Neat idea though. Do they have to manually cut off the bottom-most part of the switch?

What pcb were you going to scan? When I get the prototype I can test fit it for rosewill and ducky g2pro.
Does this plate also support G80 family too?
If it does, I'm very interested in a few of them.

The sales guy is rather short with his email replies, but I ordered the prototype on Monday. I don't know the lead time for it.

how about testing it with other G80s as well eg G80-8113? If the plate winds up with all the modular easy-to-file-off parts, does that mean that we can actually file it apart and put metal plate sections under the different parts of a G80-8113 or G80-8200 PCB? (Hint, I have both).

Any word on the prototype?
Any plan for an ISO version?

You can see that there is already an issue with a standoff hole being in the wrong place for a ducky G2 pro, but other than that I am very impressed with this shop's quality. I will try to test fit it with a Rosewill 9000 tomorrow. Gotta go to bed now.

will probably get a couple of pieces of this.
then hope it can fit the wasd code.
Lots of these group buys expose the GB organizer to heavy financial risk. To make things easier for JD, let me make this offer.
I promise to buy up to two ISO plates if it helps to meet MOQ or reach a cheaper price tier. I'm already planning to buy two ANSI plates.
I don't actually want the ISO plates. But I'll get someone who owes me money to pay JD anyway. (Can't make a gift from a Singapore paypal account).
After the group buy is done, usually people who missed the group buy start looking for the group buy organizer. JD can sell them the plates and return me my money then. By doing this, the GB organizer won't have to sweat it if the plates don't sell right away, while keeping some in stock is very helpful for latecomers.
I'm willing to pay for 6 plates (4 ANSI, 2 ISO) and just take 2 or fewer plates. I want to fund a small inventory to help out those who missed the group buy make their purchase at group buy price. It always irritates me to see people flipping stuff for profit just because they can get away with it. And it irritates me even more to hear them talk about the free market. Well, free market also allows market participants to keep inventory and sell at cost if they wish to, so there!
Those who know me, know that I've always been willing to give up my place in group buys if there isn't enough stuff to go around. If latecomers want all 6 plates, I'm 100% ok with getting zero. I'm not a charitable foundation, so after all plates get sold I still want my money back at cost, of course.
It is my intention that after I get back my money, I'll put that back into helping another group buy. Hopefully I can kick start a geekhack custom of keeping excess inventory from group buys so that those who missed the GB don't have to beg and overpay for stuff.
will probably get a couple of pieces of this.
then hope it can fit the wasd code.
I now have a CODE I can test the plate with. That was the purpose of the test plate, to try and fit it to as many real world keyboards as possible before we make a final design and move to production. Any fitment issues can be addressed now, during the design and testing phase.
I don't qualify for the test tour but I offer any assistance I can provide.
I have pics of my Shine 2 PCB and plate when I modded it.

I'd like to see those pics. I can compare them to my G2 to see if the holes look the same. I have a feeling they are the same though. I think the shine and G2 PCBs are the same except that the G2 does not have the LED related items installed.
Thanks for those pics infiniti. I just compared my 9008G2 plate and PCB to your pics, and the mounting holes appear to be identical for both.

I don't see any reason this would not fit if you actually cut the top right portion off, which this design easily allows for. I didn't want to cut this sample plate yet.
Potential issue: You can see the solid area of the red stock plate will rest on that standoff to the left of the up arrow and help support the plate. Our universal design does not have any support in this area and when you press on the plate there it flexes quite a bit. Possible solution: Make that cutout area user-removable just like the top right corner. Then you would have support here, but you could cut out that area if you needed to mount this plate on a board that has a controller there.Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/AIy9mjR.jpg)
I really think it would be OK without, but it could make things feel a little more solid

I have the plate at the moment, and I will be test fitting it to a few keyboards this weekend. Once I have the final changes made to the design, this should be ready to go forward very soon.

I have to double check this, but isn't the RK-9000 plate/PCB assembly hold in the case by resting on the folded-over edges of the original plate ? If so, wouldn't the assembly w/ the replacement plate rattle around in the case ? The QFR/S and QFXT (and even the demo tester ;)) are build exactly the same BTW..
they gave me was pretty good with a MOQ of 40 units. I don't think hitting 40 units will be a problem.

NOT hitting 40 units would be the problem.
The only disappointment to me would be inability to fit Deck Legends.
I am tempted to tell Margo not to start modding, and to wait until the universal plate is produced. But I think that's gonna take too long....

I just look up pics of that board, and I don't think it will fit the Deck Legend because of the non-standard bottom row. I believe that one limitation of this plate is that the board will have to have a standard ANSI bottom row (1.25-1.25-1.25-6.25-1.25-1.25-1.25-1.25)
And what I mean was that, with all of the interest people have expressed, I don't think we'll have difficulty getting enough orders.

I wonder if we can ever get plates for corsairs and Decks thanks to the non-standard layouts. I guess we're limited to sawing away manually?
Berserkfan, what is making these plates incompatible with the Déck Legend? Just the 1x Fn, Alt Gr, Win and menu keys on the bottom right?
What about putting a switch opener tool in the space where the controller cutout is? Seems like a good use of discarded metal.
I would take one here please.
Hey guys, sorry for lack of updates on my end. Last time I talked to jd about it, he was tweaking the plate design I believe.
I have been kinda busy with real life for a while, first getting ready for baby, and then dealing with him actually coming. Our first child, a boy, was born October 8th, and between that and work I have been swamped. He was three weeks early, but all is well. When things settle down for me, I still intend to do a run of these from my local cutter.
Well that is one way to drop the hint, since Mrs. Melvang is also a member here.I would take one here please.
A kid?

If it would get some ISO love I'm interested.
I would love either a plate if this is still active or a drawing file if somebody can get me one
I'll definitely be getting at least one of these.
Very interested if it's compatible with a gon or winkeyless full size pcbI'm not sure if the spacing between the alphas and the F-row is the same for those custom PCBs as it is for stock keyboards. The intent of this plate is to swap out the stock plate for this one in keyboards like Filco, Ducky, etc., so you can open the switches later without desoldering. And you could for instance switch the stabilizers in a Filco to Cherry instead of Costar.
Looks like the Filco PCB is universal (there are holes for ANSI, ISO and JIS).
How about an universal plate?
Right, I didn't think to that.Looks like the Filco PCB is universal (there are holes for ANSI, ISO and JIS).It can't work like that, unfortunately, because of the need for plate mounted stabilizers.
How about an universal plate?
You're not the first to ask - I get asked this all the time.My bad, sorry.
My bad, sorry.
Looks great! Unfortunately I'd only be able to use it if it was compatible with Varmilo VA87MR or WASD CODE 87 though.
Any hope that these might still get made?
If not will the file become available so I could get a couple cut for myself?
Thanks

I heard Jd will run another gb for his plate
If this IC is still active, I would be interested in an ISO-compatible plate if that is an available option. It's pretty much dead.
Did leandren never do a run?Nope. He said due to the larger size shipping was too much of a hassle.
Is this still happening?
