Title: Hello From Texas
Post by: Txduck on Tue, 18 March 2014, 03:00:20
Hi all!
I've been doing some research lately on keyboards which is how I happened across geekhack.  Nice forum!
A while back I purchased my first mechanical keyboard, but I now have my second board on order and it should be here in about 2 days.   ;D
Just decided the first mkb wasn't what I wanted.
I have a Ducky 9008 S3, white leds, Cherry mx blues,  enroute to it's new happy home.  ;D
I hope it works out OK.

Meantime I've been reading, enjoying and learning on geekhack.

Welcome. So your second board is a MX Blues. What about your first? You know Blue is clicky, which means it is louder, right?

My 1st board is a Corsair mx red. Since then I was able to try an mx blue in a local store and I liked it better. It was a Ducky with blue LEDs and I wanted white so I had to order a different model online to get the mx blues with white backlight.
I hope it works out.

Quite a bit of a drastic change from a linear switch feeling to tactile.. and from quiet to clicky. Nice. I hope you like it and will get some nice key caps with it. Currently there is a group buy running for a Toxic key caps. Very nice and attractive.

Welcome to GH. And regarding switches you are following the same pattern than most of us here. At the end most of us have tried most of the switches available.

Well I guess we have to blow what money we have somehow. Computers and keyboards are definitely a quick way to do it.  ;D
This is the one I've got coming.

Yeah, welcome to GH, but holy crap $239 for a Ducky?  Rly?  You coulda had a 55g RealForce with Topre switches for $199.  https://elitekeyboards.com/products.php?sub=topre_keyboards,rftenkeyless&pid=rf_se1800

It's the all-black one.  Some love it.  Others not so much.  But a 55g Topre Keyboard for $199 with genuine PBT keycaps is an awesome price.

Thanks Pacifist. Told the wife everything but the price and she didn't ask so I didn't tell.  ;D
Well, I wanted the combination of white backlighting and mx blues which for some reason limited my choices somewhat.
Didn't want to spend that much, but it had what I wanted and I have to admit it caught my eye.
But it should last a lot longer than the membrane KBs I've been using, so I'll get my money's worth out of it.

We all know that "lasting a long time" is not true - not because of the keyboard but because once you love typing on real mechanical, your heart starts to wonder what happens if you use the other switch and ohh.. shiny new keyboard and caps. You are doomed brother!! :D

Can we not criticize members' decisions on keyboard purchasing? Pretty rude.
OT: Congrats on the purchase. The Tuhaojin definitely seems very expensive, but hopefully you enjoy the premium it comes with. Go Texas!

Of course! We do have a few Texan members; I can't remember all of them, but esoomenonema, Jack, and a few others off the top of my head are from here.

Hey, I have family out that way.  Ft. Worth, actually.  Welcome to Geekhack.  I just dropped about 210 on a mechanical.  You're not alone.
