hey dudes!
Firstly i'm looking for a free program (no pirate bay/cracked versions) or a low cost software for beginners. I have never edited footage before so i have no idea what i am doing and would like to give it a whirl.
so i want to edit together some footage i took and i have no idea how to go about splicing different scenes together. Nothing long, probably about 3 mins of different scenes spliced together. Looking to turn the footage to black and white, put a "old timey" film grain filter over it, and finally have an Mp3 playing the entire length of the video.
could someone recommend me an easy to learn program to get my feet wet?

Cinelarra does have a bit of a learning curve but it's not too terrible... and of course its free and should be able to do all of what you want for your project. If you don't use Linux nor want to install it you can use one of the live distros like ArtistX. If it seems too much for you maybe OpenShot instead... though it doesn't have nearly as many features.

I used Kdenlive once and it was quite idiot-friendly (I knew nearly nothing about video or editing at the time), unlike every other app I had tried.

i like idiot friendly, never heard of kdenlive. i put it on my list to try after openshot, jeez i had no idea this would be so complicated.

im diving into an aftereffects trial right now and have no idea WTH i am doing! no linux, ill give OpenShot a try if i continue to make no progress. Features arent that important to me just as long as it has the campibilities to do the blk + wht and a couple fun filters :D

How about Windows Live Movie Maker? Don't know if you can find anything more newb-friendly than it :P
I've used it a couple of times and it was fine for what I wanted, you might as well give it a try...

I think you can get a free trial for sony vegas. Really intuitive program, plenty of tutorials for it too.

Im enjoying my strides in movie maker right now, thanks for the recommendation :) i have so my programs to dabble in now becuase of you guys. I had no idea most of these editors even existed :thumb:

:/ this is exactly what i am in the process of using right now... I gave up on aftereffects, waaaay to complicated for my brain. Photoshop i am fine in, any kind of moving pictures is no bueno though :D
