I am thinking that you could swap the keys from a dasIII to a filco.

Anyone else here have given that a go?

I really hate the type face of the font on the Das. It seems like some reject font they included with Microsoft Publisher.

haha.  agreed.

The keys do look similar in size, or at least close enough that they could be swapped.

I'll try swapping a few when I get my Das Keyboard 3 back from RMA.  I better not break a stem or I'll blame you guys.

the key caps come off pretty easily. I use two paper clips to lift them off of the stem.

Are all the keys swappable (same size)?  Shift, spacebar, enter, etc...

Hmm. I will need to check on that. The letter keys seem ok as does the capslock key. I would think enter, shift would be good too; but need to verify that. The space bar could be iffy, but may not need to be replaced?

Let me check on that.

iMav

I eyeballed the keys and I am thinking that ALL of them can be swapped out.

I see an obvious problem in the first picture with swapping keys on the Das and Filco.  It looks like the Filco 'board has mislabeled D and F keys.

Edit: nevermind

I'm interested in seeing of the Filco keys fit the Das though!

yah, but did you notice that the F key on the Das is already starting to fade?
The das isn't even a year old yet and the lettering is starting to go.

So cheap. I might be spoiled by the PFU, Topre and IBM keyboards.

Is cheap what it is? For the 130 dollars or so you would think the lettering would stay on for a bit longer.

Yeah, I did notice that the "stems" on the letter F were a little short.  That's a damn shame, really.  That is one thing I am not too fond of on the Costar 'boards; the letters being printed on instead of molded or laser etched, that is.  Even my black Cherry keyboard has laser etched caps (they don't look the greatest, but they won't rub off, either).

The lettering on my Scorpius M10 is darkening, but not rubbing off like silkscreened letters do. (My ThinkPad's keyboard is a friggin joke, though, with quite a few keys missing most of their printing. Give it a few years, and I'll have a Das ThinkPad. :p)
