Title: Cherry MX-Board 3.0 Stems
Post by: drrtyrokka on Tue, 25 March 2014, 08:47:10
Hey guys,

does anyone know, if the stems of the Cherry MX-Board 3.0 are off-centered or like the normal filco layout (centered)?
Wondering if i could use my old filco keycaps with this one, because i dont really like low-profile caps.

Thanks for help!
Greetings

AFAIK the caps lock is the only odd key, it is between what we call offset and center stemmed.

This is correct. If you are planning on replacing the MX3.0 keyset, I recommend purchasing a separate single keycap for the caps, just in case you fail at your first attempt at stem relocation surgery.

Thanks again, mate. I just bought a Ducky Zero 2108 instead, think it has a better build quality.. But if I decide to buy the MX 3.0 in the future, I know what it's about.

wtf, so it isn't even compatible with either offset and center stemmed caps lock?

and what does Cherry think that will do? Magically improve typing accuracy, speed, and durability of keyboard?

I'm guessing for whatever reason that was just the mold that devlin had for caps lock.

It's ridicular, cherry knows about the mechanical keyboard market and i really doubt they dont realizesd what's happening here on geekhack or deskthority and all the groupbuys and stuff. Why the heck would I through a new keyboard on the market with lots of new features but dont take a standard layout... how can it be that difficult to get this...
Especially for this price, the keyboard would be nice to have it (even just for keycap storage :D)

Honestly, I don't think geekhack (or keyboard modders in general) were the target audience for the MX3.0. Yes they've put a bit more effort in appealing to gamers, but I think they're looking more towards the group of gamers who just a keyboard with whatever is left over after buying the main system components.

Any of us here should know the MX2.0 and 3.0 are not build at a high standard. I have the 2.0 and it flexes just when I"m typing on it and just all 'round feels cheap and nasty. It is the cheapest feeling keyboard I own. The only reason I got it was because it was on special for $60 and it was the cheapest way for me to own Blues and find out if I liked them or not.
