(Of course I won't wait for the pics...)

What logo is on the shirt?  The one at the top of the page, or the one in my avatar?

I will probably get a black one, but I would really like a grey shirt with black logo.

I'd like to know what the logo is exactly, but I'm interested.

Black on gray would be sweet.  Black on red would be super sweet.  However, I can live with white on black. :)

It's the logo in your avatar.

What I want is for members to put the size and number of t-shirts you want and to specify a color scheme (if you want something other than white on black).  Once I sort out what everyone wants, we'll see what is feasible color-wise.

Sweet.

I would like one grey shirt with a black logo.  How do the sizes run?  I would like a Medium if they run kinda big or a Large if they run small.  I am 6'0" w/a medium build (about 170 lbs., fairly athletic, SWM, employed... wait, TMI :D ), so sometimes mediums are too small and larges are too big.

Here's my ideal order, I guess you could say:

1 - Medium - Gray shirt with Black logo
1 - Medium - Red shirt with Black logo

You can put me down for a couple of the XLarge as well.

EDIT: Maybe you should make those 2XL's instead of XL been sitting at a desk too long and have gotten a little rounder :(

I have to stop clicking your links. I thought you were crazy before, now I know you're insane! ;)

And iMav, I'll take a t-shirt as well. Believe it or not, I want a 3X (I love loose shirts) adn I would prefer it in red or green, and I'm not fond of black but if that's what you get I'll still buy one. If you get them in different colors, I might take 2.

I'd love to get an official shirt but I guess shipping to Germany would be quite expensive. Much better to print them at a local shop.  Is there a high resolution or even vector graphics version of the logo available?

This is from the original T-Shirt Thread.  I think this might be sufficient.

Well, I don't have much free time for things like that currently. So, no.  I was thinking about stopping by a local print shop on the way home from work.  Or maybe order online...

So you're holding the copyright, aren't you?  Bhtooefr, may I kindly ask for your permission to make myself a geekhack t-shirt using your logo? :)

Aaaand I'd be happy if I could get a copy of the hi-res version, too.

Feel free to let others use the tshirt logo.

If you want a tshirt, just post what you want.  We'll worry about shipping stuff later.  (and I won't hold anyone to a commitment if the shipping turns out to be cost prohibitive)

Okay, I'd like one Large (white on black is good).  I guess a single t-shirt could be put in a large envelope, so shipping shouldn't be too much.  Do you accept credit card? :)

Regarding copyright... the switch diagrams are taken from the patents or some other source we don't have the copyright for, so strictly speaking the whole logo is illegal anyway, no?  But thanks for giving your permission, iMav and bthooefr!  What about the hi-res version?
Title: New geekhack t-shirt thread
Post by: bhtooefr on Fri, 03 April 2009, 09:56:44
All of the patents in question are expired, and are in the public domain. ;)

And, I believe the diagrams themselves enter the public domain immediately.

As soon as I can find the hi-res version, I'll PM you a link, but shipping for a shirt really isn't much.

It's been a while, but I am now actually pulling the trigger on the shirts.  I will be submitting an order at the end of the week that reflects the demand that is listed on the first post of this thread (plus some extras).  So, if you want in, want to change what you asked for, or wish to officially back out from a t-shirt request, now is the time to speak up.

That really stinks. Sorry to hear about your friend.

As far as a source goes why not use CafePress then you can offer up for sale far more than just a t-shirt. Just for reference here is groklaw's (http://www.cafepress.com/groklaw) stuff page. I think it would be cool to not only get a t-shirt but a coffee/tea mug as well.

Oh here is the link on how to get it all set up and what the different options are http://www.cafepress.com/cp/info/sell/index.aspx?area=learn&page=learn and here is a link that explains how you make money http://www.cafepress.com/cp/info/sell/index.aspx?area=intro_money&page=intro_money

Any ways just my 2 cents worth. I've always thought a cafepress site for geekhack would be cool.

Cool did not know that. Just have to get a mug. So what is the difference between the shirt that cafepress has and what you are going to order? EDIT: seems you answered that while I was writing this.

Also have you thought about putting a link to this on the front page. A little banner with Buy Geekhack stuff would be nice and help those like myself that didn't even know that it existed. Besides it wouldn't hurt sales either.

i'd wear the white one too. love it.

with a jpeg, technically an individual could upload the pic to cafepress and just order their own shirts with both of these designs,  right?

for instance, a charcoal gray shirt with the black topre jpeg on it, and a white shirt with the ibm jpeg. someone should do that.  webwit, if you want to send me the jpegs I'll order two shirts to see how they come out :)

I don't have the "originals", they were quick 5 minute mashups with bad finishing - it was just about the idea. Feel feel to recreate. I picked the topre logo from their site and the font is Black Wolf (http://www.1001fonts.com/font_details.html?font_id=100), which I just picked because it sort of resembled it.

cafepress issues:  when you go to customize, no charcoal color t-shirts that I can find (would need a charcoal or dark gray one for the topre t-shirt). They either have jet black or nothing. (I dont think black print on jet black t-shirt would show up with the effect that we're seeing in webwit's pic. The two colors need to be just slightly different, I think).

Black on black is, after all, very cool:

But it only works if its actually black on charcoal.  I suppose one alternative is to have a charcoal colored font for the text, instead. Still, thats a different look from the original design.

Does anyone have experience with any other online custom t-shirt site that might have a wider range of t-shirt colors?

The ibm t-shirt may be possible on cafepress but here too there is one problem. When you go to place the jpeg on the t-shirt, cafepress only gives you two options: center or pocket. This means: a) no pic on the back of it (the way webwit had it). Only the front. b) by "pocket" they mean left side of t-shirt where the pocket usually goes - not on right side as webwit had it. (I'd actually prefer it on the right, tho left side will do). So basically you can make the ibm one with a white tshirt so long as you give up on having second pic on the back of the tshirt. (which is fine i guess. would have been neater with both pics on the tshirt, front and back).

So anyone know of any other decent custom tshirt sites? Else from cafepress you can pretty much only get  less-cool versions of the tshirts  made. The ibm one is definitely less cool without the pic on the back. It still might be worth it to get just the front pic - but for $20 it seems kind of plain. And I'm not sure yet how a charcoal "topre" on jet black tshirt would look.

Also keep in mind that there could be legal issues with creating unauthorized Topre and IBM t-shirts.

I checked it out, one nice thing there is you can print on front and back. So the ibm one might be better done there.
They did seem to allow quantity of "1", tho i didnt see the price. Prolly in the 20 buck range I imagine.

They didnt have a charcoal color for the topre shirt, but at this point I'm thinking that charcoal colored text on a black t-shirt might give a similar effect as webwit's original design.  So that one could be done either at cafepress or solidprintwear.

Well I'm assuming that since these are for personal use (and not for profit) that no one is going to sue. If I were selling these for profit then I'd imagine they'd all have an issue with it.

who knows though. i'm not up on the latest copyright law labyrinth. I'm willing to be a guinea pig.

Have you seen the "dark" shirt?  If so, is it black or a dark grey?

It looks like when you click on the dark shirt at cafepress you have an option of several dark colors.  Olive green one looks pretty good.

I actually just placed an order through CafePress for a couple of items (so I could be the guinea pig).  I ordered a gray "hoodie" sweatshirt and a sleeveless t-shirt.  I'll let you know how the quality stacks up to the sample ones I got from Aramark (which were excellent).

You should change your name to "Larry the Cable Guy."

Thanks for checking this out for us.  I am going to place an order for the "dark" T-shirt in the near future.

Jelly, go back one page towards the bottm.  Mav has a link to the geekhack store.  They have like 30 different styles of products you can buy.  I just bought a grey hoodless sweatshirt.  I might get a coffee mug too.

I have a sweatshirt (hoodie) that is excellent.  I have one t-shirt which turned out a tad blurry (with the switch detail).  Overall pleased with the quality.  I would like to have some other logos available...anyone for a t-shirt logo contest?  ;)

Its not a plain shirt. Its an Otaku shirt.
There is a difference...

right, but you are missing the point.
Its an Otaku shirt. Thats what makes it different.

Post by: jelly on Sat, 05 December 2009, 08:39:21
so its like buying any black plain shirt.

i can call it Otaku Shirt.
Title: New geekhack t-shirt thread
Post by: bigpook on Sat, 05 December 2009, 08:58:30
right. whats important here is not so much the actual shirt, but the name of the shirt.
someone else will plainly say 'hey, thats just a plain black shirt'.

you can than gently remind them, 'actualy, its an otaku shirt'

for me its all about the branding. it works for  apple.

Don't give me none of that Otaku shirt. I prefer something with writing on it.

Post by: bigpook on Sat, 05 December 2009, 15:17:28
I was meaning to add to my last post.  a small Otaku badge on the shirt would make it more authentic. the badge would have to be all black though, and hard to see.

you clearly arent getting it, jelly.  almost all the shirts these days, covered in writing.  maybe just a small logo in the corner.  this one is different.  BLANK.  conversation starter and whatnot, very unique.  plus it has the added benefit of training women's eyes to not focus on your shirt, but the other direction.  that way they can walk past you more efficiently and with fewer errors (ie, making you think they were looking at you).

How about a t-shirt that just says "GEEKHACK.ORG" in bold letters? Keep the cost down, yet get the point across.

I want one grey label and one blue label.   Years must be appropriate and ideally of units we actually own.

Possibly a rubberized decal for the front IBM label and ideally a washable paper label covered over with a clear decal for the back.

That would be awesome!!!

I want one for hardcore Model M users like me.

This is too plain, I would like one with a sexy wireframe Model M rendered in one side plus some catchy phrase and the geekhack logo on it.

My prefered color would be black, but other colors would be great!

Maybe an alternate design of a wearing the Model M in guitar rock style could be interesting too :)

http://www.zazzle.com/space_saver_tshirt-235413329668433084

Contrary to those designs...
The design must be very cool, attractive and awesome (not generic at all, but original). Model M not deserves less ;)
