Title: Nuke Proof Keyboard filled with Mandolin Crystals
Post by: berserkfan on Wed, 26 March 2014, 02:11:33
I see fohat's a lonely old man here, so I'm gonna join him by putting a link. It's not my auction.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-IBM-3161-Terminal-Clicky-Model-M-Keyboard-Number-1386303-Nov-22-1985-/121304559307?pt=PCA_Mice_Trackballs&hash=item1c3e50aecb

Only $995.95, I bet it's filled to the wazoo with Mandolin crystals. Should be able to withstand a direct hit by a nuke.

Ratio-wise, this kind of price makes a mere $72 postage seem insignificant :))

I thought that the Mandolin crystals were in the early-1985s, not November.

I thought the whole point of this subforum was for user auctions only?

Yeah it was.  Discussing it right now whether to open this to all auctions or post a further clarification, but my personal preference is to keep this as an extension of the Classifieds as designed, for people's personal externally-hosted auctions (which the stickied rules here hint at).

This belongs in Great Finds, as one of the ironic examples. At least this guy isn't making up crap about his terminal board, he's possibly just clueless about its alleged rarity and desirability, or hoping to get really lucky.

Ok, this is going into great finds for now then, as that's where it traditionally belongs, as you said, TT.

Gawd, this guy won't give up. Scamming people in Peru wasn't good enough, now he's bamboozling the good citizens of Milford, Massachusetts.

Horrible great find. We should change the forum name to "finds - anything, who cares".

Good. Im glad these dumb posts keep happening so they can see how these rule changes are useless.

They are from early to mid 1986. For example my 1390120 from 3 march 1986 has it.

No wonder, I figured things out now. Ronnie Raygun and his Star Wars project was in full swing and there were fears of a Soviet nuclear attack. So IBM did the patriotic things and started producing nuke proof keyboards.

A "Benjamin" is a $100 bill because it has Ben Franklin's picture on it.

In the US you have to be dead to be on stamps or money.

There is a joke about "dead presidents" when referring to large-denomination bills because they have presidents portraits on them, but Benjamin Franklin was "the only president who was never president".
