and it's driving me insane. any idea what it could be?

Open it up and see if the noise goes away when you press on any of the components on the circuit board.

Wow that is so crazy, I have a G9x and never head it make a sound, let us know what it was if you figure it out.
-
Never realised it before but I can hear a very faint high pitched sound out of my G9X when I put it up to my ear. Seems like a pretty common problem going by google.

IIRC this is a known issue with some laser mice. I can't find details right now, but it's definitely been reported before.

maybe it's because my room is really quiet, but it's ridiculously annoying. to the point that i am no longer going to use this mouse.

yeah, a google search brings up a couple of results. sending it in was an option, as people have gotten mice that don't make that much noise but.. this mouse is like 4-5 years old now. so no RMA for me =/

Is a capacitor going bad? Sounds like cap squeal.

I dont know why logitech discontinue this mouse.

Had a really careful listen to mine and I can hear something! have to put my ear in the perfect spot right above it but I can hear it.
I think I might buy myself another before they disappear, some of the retailers here still have stock.

I noticed this with my old g500 also.

Lower your refresh rate. Your motherboard is probably low quality. I've had the same issue until I bought a top notch mobo. You're probably using 1khz refresh rate which you don't really need anyway.
