Title: Help me identify this IBM Model F - Part No. 5642852
Post by: whiskytango on Fri, 28 March 2014, 14:28:50
I picked this up at an e-recycler today. Thing is built like a tank. I cannot find any specific information about this part number. Does anyone have any further information? It's the one that's not the 122 in the pics. It was also missing about 3-4 key caps so I scavenged some off of another model M that was not salvageable. Pics:

To go with E TwentyNine's post, this is the DT Wiki article on the 5291: http://deskthority.net/wiki/IBM_Model_F#IBM_5291_Keyboard

awesome guys, thanks! I saw the 5291 article on DT, but the part numbers did not match up. DT says 4176191 or 1397950 but mine is 5642852.

Anyway, that's great that it looks like soarer's converter should work for this. Thanks so much for the useful links.

It's a valid part number.  Page 95 in the 5291 Display Station Maintenance Guide lists it as "Keyboard Assembly (US & Canada)":

Nice find, if some scrappy. But it's built like a tank.

Yeah, it's not in great shape, but I basically got the two keyboards in that pic for $2.50 each

Edit: there's lots of things I can hear rattling around in that 122 case though. Not sure if it's going to work or not.

Well, you can open it up and see. Probably it will ;)

it sounds like you have a model M 122 with lots of popped rivets. bolt modding time!
