Title: Chinese Hammer Immitation 60% Case for ~$80 on TaoBao (In production right now)
Post by: RESPRiT on Sat, 29 March 2014, 04:03:34
I was browsing TaoBao and came across this: http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=2013.1.0.0.oQu2d5&scm=1007.10009.518.0&id=37135757229&pvid=e03e87fc-4d7a-4ca3-b297-395b6db97bea

It looks like a Hammer case, but I'm not completely sure it's legit. I'm mighty tempted to buy it now that TaoBao has their SEA service, and it's worked pretty smoothly for me when I tried it. Thoughts?

Yes please let us know if you get one.  For $80 I might have to try and find a proxy.

I need a 60% case.

I let Qtan a message too. Hopefully this all works out. I would love to have another one (should have never sold my first one :/)

As far as i know, the case is a knockoff.
And the shopkeeper doesn't have a finishing product yet.

Not that I doubt you, because the price is ridiculously low, but how do you know that?

I'd asked the shopkeeper, and he answered me that the case will be available in a month.

The chinese words of the title "廠方定做" means the manufacturer customized it.
In other words, which means the manufacturer do it in private.

Since the low price , I think take it a try when it is available is a good choice...

If someone gets QTan on this please let us know. I would love to order one from him, when the cases were available, if at some point they were.

Something tells me this is a bit fishy. I don't even see how they can afford to buy the materials for that price, let alone labor costs relating to the milling of the case.

The case is likely a knock-off and will be available in a month. I might buy one anyways and comment on the quality.

I'm happy to be proven wrong but I just don't see how they could possibly make any money out of these. Raw materials alone would be very close to the price they are selling it for and then you need to mill the case AND anodize it. Reeks of a scam to me.

Just take a look at the Vortex cases. Even they're $50 at wholesale price and they have the weight of Vortex's purchasing power behind them and are using a ****load less materials.

Let us know of your experience with it. A review will be very welcome. And thank you for pointing it out. I found another aluminum case (http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=2013.1.w4004-5182155118.18.T1K9g6&id=37128843006), even cheaper I may want to try. At 45 USD, I think is a great deal. But I do not know if they ship worlwide. I will try to have QTan proxing it for me.

I had that one bookmarked as well, but I'm more intrigued by the Hammer knock-off for now. Let me know how that one turns out if you do end up getting it though!

Looks a lot like the gb that pexon ran for a aluminum 60% case. His was black though. He has limited extras available if you are interested.

Ya it does appear to be lower profile.

I like how people got up in arms about Kailh/Kaihu and the MX style switches on Techkeys, but no one says anything about this being a blatant copy of someone's design.  Instead everyone is going cool, I want this.

+1

It is a lot of hard work and time to do the design and make it production ready.  I have always heard very good things about Hammer's work, it does not seem right to buy this stuff if the design is not openly available.  :(

To everyone who cares about integrity in these matters. Go buy this case instead. There are enough extras and it's less expensive.

no one yet... they're still in production, well that's what we were told.
I'm totally down to get one, when I find a proxy.

Actually, it doesn't explicitly say on the TaoBao page when I checked, I must have subconsciously inferred from the pictures. I'll update the title anyways.

I'm not sure if he was referring to this case, but qtan posted this earlier.

Since ApocalypseMaow said that he let qtan know I figured that thread was about this.
