Hey All,
How many of you are in the NYC / NJ / CT area? I'm thinking it would be cool to hook up, and bring a bunch of boards so we could all "test drive" a few before buying...
Maybe pick a place and throw a few drinks back while we're at it.
Dorky, yes, but may be useful to some...
Potential Attendees as of 4/10:
BigWopHH
FKSSR
Tamasrepus
Wheels83
Lysander

I'm not in that area, but it's a great idea nonetheless!
-
Maybe you could call it a "keyboard eccentrics group" and use KEG for the abbreviated name.

KEG. I like it!!
ashort is, temporarily, in the NYC area. (although, who knows how many of his keyboards he current has with him)
-
There are a lot of us in the Austin, TX area that could do this as well. I am willing to drive to Austin to try out some kbs and drink some beer. I can always get in a little disc golf while I'm up there, too. :)
-
I'm in NYC currently and will be moving to central Jersey in July. Either way, I'm game.
I'm not sure how many boards I have that others don't have, but I'm willing to share. :)

Strong work, ozar! :)

That really is a good idea.
Maybe I'll take a few keyboards to Notacon (in Cleveland, OH,) because of this thread.
(Well, if this RiscPC comes in before Notacon, I'll be bringing it, so I'll have to bring a PS/2 keyboard for it, at least, which means either the Fujitsu or my trusty 1391401.)
-
wellington1869 and wheels83 are in the NY/NJ area as well. I'm not sure who else.
-
Those that attend such a meeting could do some trading and/or buying and selling there as well, so as to avoid any shipping and packaging costs, and have their new items in hand immediately.
-
Actually, I'm thinking I'll break my Notacon stuff out into a separate thread.
-
I'm willing to organize/host a similar event in the Pacific Northwest.
-
In Manhattan, NYC here. I can bring the keyboards listed in my signature. Would like to try a Topre Realforce too!
-
Sweet! That's a HHKB and Realforce in the NYC area!!!
-
i live on the border of nyc, in nj.
i'm down for a keyboard orgy. no homo seriously though.
-
I can bring evertying in my sig too...gotta figure out a good time to organize this I guess.
-
People in Indiana get no love...
I think ashort is from Indiana too right?
-
This sounds like a great idea. I'm in Manhattan, and it would be awesome if I can experience what the Cherry Blue/Brown and Topre switches are like, before I commit to buying an expensive Filco or Realforce board. I would be able to bring the ubiquitous Model M and Unicomp keyboards. For amusement's sake, I can also bring my old Timex Sinclair 1000, with its ghastly membrane 'keyboard'.
-
BigWopHH, can you put a list of the people currently willing to participate (in the NY tri-state area) to your original post? I think that may help in the organization process, as well.

You got it. Hopefully we can attract a few more...

Did this ever happen? I live in Manhattan.
-
I don't think so. Geeks usually don't like to get out of the house. That, and they might have to talk to girls. It's a lose-lose all the way around.
I wanted to have a little get together in TX, but it didn't work out either.
-
Hey, I offered margaritas and still couldn't get anyone to show up!
-
C'mon now, geeks don't drink. Their moms won't let them while they're living "under her roof."

Same here. Count me in.
Don't think it would be hard to find a space either:
Used this once before, but there are always bars... http://www.thinkcoffeenyc.com/rent-our-space/

About location, the best geographic compromise would be..hmm...I dunno..some place like Amsterdam.
I'm in. I don't know if I would be joining in on the show-and-tell, but the vacation would be nice.
-
oh hm, original post is in April. Just noticed that. Got all excited for nothing.

True. But then, noone would remember that event the next day. :smokin:
-
True, but there is a correlation between skinny Europeans on bikes and fat people on mopeds. :D
I ride my bike, though some asshats thought it was funny to flip it on it's side and dent the rear-wheel this evening.
-
Don't worry Salcan, I'm keeping this thread up in the hopes that the NYC geekhackizens trickle in.
-
although i'm skeptical (based on how long ago this thread was started), i'd be down for this
