Title: Model M terminal june 1985, seems like NIB < $5 for now
Post by: Kliee on Sun, 06 April 2014, 18:17:24
On eBay.com, model M from june 1985. Started at $0.99, now at $3.29 with a little more than 2 days to go.

Features square logo on the right and the blank "no led" area.

Seems like brand new in it's box, but the seller listed it as used.

Looks pretty clean, but it is a terminal. It would be a shame to part it out, especially with that old-school label.

It makes me wonder where all these near-NIB terminal model Ms are coming from. I think there have been three or four of these up for auction in the last couple of weeks.

What's the process for converting one of these? (Just a pointer to more information would be great.)

Yes, you're right it's a terminal one, my bad  :). I heard it can be "converted" quite easily using a AT or PS/2 cable and that one of the extra keys on the numpad comes as a coma when doing so.

Also do you think those could be considered as great finds ?

Industrial XT (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-IBM-Industrial-Type-PC-XT-keyboard-Rare-dated-1985-/261431668469?pt=US_Vintage_Computing_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3cde8aaef5) (seems to be non clicky)

IBM PCjr (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-PCjr-keyboard-mint-condition-/281299581165?pt=US_Vintage_Computing_Parts_Accessories&hash=item417ec2f8ed) (rubber dome, but cute!)

I am not sure that this is the case.

OAK FTM switches, was a lot cheaper when a bunch showed up a few weeks ago. most likely not compatible with actual model F guts.

I'm not sure it's worth more than $20 shipped, but at least it's not a chiclet.

Well I don't remember where I heard that, but it indeed seems a little more complicated than that (though not that much).

Here are some hints on this conversion topic, from geekhack :

its a bar code version. pretty nice, and if you have a converter already made, its plug and play

Similar Nov 1985 terminal just sold for $599.95:

That one sold!?!?! People confuse me sometimes... I need to get on this moneybags bandwagon and sell some of my boards for ridiculous prices and a half!

Edit: according to this listing: http://www.ebay.com/itm/111299617857 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/111299617857) it sold for $395. Still absurdly priced, though. Just $200 less absurd.

No, that's completely different one.

The auction I linked was 121315451457 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-IBM-3161-Terminal-Model-M-Keyboard-Number-1386303-Nov-22-1985-/121315451457?nma=true&si=kS%252BmveLUT3WFr8VgsMe9mPDgGrg%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557) and is for a Nov 1985.

One you have given is 111299617857 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/111299617857) and is for a June 1985.

Different auction, different keyboard, same seller.

I wonder if it's the same buyer on both.
