Title: Getting a cable for Cherry POS
Post by: berserkfan on Mon, 14 April 2014, 01:23:41
I just bought a Cherry RC128BM POS and was aghast to find that it was shipped without any cables.

If anyone (hint, Ivan) can give me advice on how to get a cable, I would be very much obliged. I don't even know what the ports behind do.

It is a mini din 8 contact. Ill try to find a cable.

EDIT: I think this should do the job (even though the seller miscounted the ps/2 port).

Hi Blackbox

Really appreciate your message. But do you have something a bit less exorbitant to recommend? $47 is not exactly a normal price for what seems to be a normal cable. And recycledgoods.com, heh, they're one of the most expensive ebay sellers around.

I could look for them locally in Singapore, but I really need some names/ descriptions for the appropriate cable to use. Is the cable I need a mini-din 8 pin male, to a ps2 or USB male output?

Yes it is, Ill try to find something cheaper. I guess you did not want to use more on the cable than the keyboard :)

Just get a PS/2 to PS/2 cable, and bust the plastic block from one end so it will fit in the din8. The relevant pins are all matching to PS/2 so I have no idea why Tipro use din8 other than to be annoying.

Good to know that they haven't shifted the pins around and that the two extra pins is not used.

do you know how to remove the plastic block without destroying everything?  I have an unfortunate tendency to be like my avatar.

I would just take a plier and gently twist it off.

ah, but that's a Ps2 cable. Kinda hard to find anything that can fit in that tiny space to twist off the plastic tab. If it was the size of an AT cable things would be very different.

Some tweezers might do the trick.

I would use a fine needle nose pliers. Tweezers might also work, as has been listed above.

I can modify and mail you one if you like.

I would be inclined to agree with dork.

Get some needle nose pliers and just slowly rock the block from side to side until it separates from the connector.
