Title: Place to buy clear switches?
Post by: Ronnn on Mon, 14 April 2014, 22:06:23
I have been using mx brown for 6 months. 3 months on logitech g710+ and 3 months on poker 2. Although they have same switches, the brown in poker tends to feel heavier than g710+ (the tactile is more noticeable). The brown in g710+ feels like red. Probably it's due to the pbt keycaps on poker 2.

Now I want to try mx clear. It is mechanicalkeyboards.com the best place to get cheap switches? 110 pack is $53.90. Is there anyplace where I can get clear cheaper?

Also, I am thinking about swapping the spring in clear. Prefer black springs. Where can I buy the black springs(only the spring)? If it's not possible, is there any alternatives? I know originative sells some. The heaviest I can get from them is 62g, others all sold out. How is the 62g spring compare to black spring?

Thank you for your help!!  :)

New, MK is your best bet

Used, try to find a board on ebay with them. Results vary

IIRC 62g korean springs are lighter than stock black springs. There should be a diagram on originative

You could also check
www.mouser.com
www.digikey.com  (I have bought clears from hear but that was a while ago.)

http://techkeys.us (http://techkeys.us) just started selling switches as well. I was looking for a source for strong springs like those in MX blacks recently and didn't have much luck on commercial sites. Sprit is doing a GB for springs. Not sure if he'll do another round though: http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=55888.0 (http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=55888.0). Otherwise, maybe check the classifieds.

If you want springs from MX Blacks check with e-waste and e-recycle shops.  I have picked up 3 wyse boards with MX Blacks for $3 each, an AEK II with cream alps for $5, and a Lexmark M for $5.
