Title: Cooler Master introduces QuickFire Rapid-i
Post by: MyersKL on Tue, 15 April 2014, 21:38:18
Just stumbled onto this press release.

Cooler Master will soon introduce the new QuickFire Rapid-i (available first in North America), a mechanical keyboard "offering full keyboard illumination and unique lighting effects." Looks like a TKL layout with media shortcuts, NKRO and other features found on other keyboards in their product line.

Woah, the Active light backlighting thing sounds really cool. Anyone have any idea around when this is going to be released?

There's a signup page to be notified of its availability:

I'm about ready to purchase either a Quick Fire Stealth or Quick Fire TK. This platform looks very interesting.

Although it does say "quiet and tactile mechanical switches". So no blues? Or browns?

And how about firmware programmability...

Many of us, if not all of us at GH already have keyboards with lights...

Any possibility on programmable/ flash-able firmware?

---   at least programmable keys no?

That is super steep. This is Ducky's price range, and I can't see people with any sense buying this over a Ducky.

tell me that's not real ... I've felt ducky quality to be not up to par as CM though  :-X

you guys say it's for l33t gamerz but then again CM isn't into bull****, just pure ... No this is definitely for l33t gamerz.

I'm waiting for the QFR-SI. I might be able to get my hands on a QFR-SI. If it's really that much this is a no-no to me. how many TKL ducky shines are there? I have to pay through the nose for a ducky shine here ...

But about on par with other TKL backlit keyboards.

Maybe in australia, but Ducky TKL backlit keyboards were always in the $120-140 vicinity around here. I see some on NCIX.com for $110 atm. MSRP may have been $150 for ducky full-sized boards at one point, not TKL.

PCCG Ducky Shine 3 TKL for AU$149 (about US$140).  So if the QFRi is US$149 that would make it about AU$160.

But I'm pretty sure this will still sell well, as l33t g4m3r5 usually don't have exposure to Ducky's, and only see what is on the front page of PCGamer, or other consumer-oriented sites/publishers. To them, this will be the next great thing after the BW.

Sounds more like the Ducky keyboards are much more expensive, and as a consequence are less favoured.

Or Yuuki is just delusional. You never know.
Or maybe this board is the next endgame, who knows. Can't be sure till you try.

I just bought a normal QFR, then found out about the Rapid-i. I was all excited that it would have either replaced the QFR, or would only be around $99.

I was ready to swap it out for the new one until I found out that it would cost me twice as much. That's really too bad.

At least I don't have buyers remorse ;)

In the beginning of the QFR the price now is nowhere near the launch SRP ...

*EDIT* Ahhhhh the lighting. Makes sense now.

Ducky has it as well. Ducky Shine 3 TKL costs as much as the QF-I and people aren't angry?  :p

And the CM Storm MECH and the Trigger Z ... Also the Roccat Ryos MK Pro but these use the microcontroller more for macro.

I was disappointed at the 150$ price tag since it seems like a QFR with LED. Which the QFR can be gotten for about 60$ I just think CM overstepped slightly because I feel that most people don't think of it as a superior product when it comes in mechanical keyboards. Don't get me wrong the QFR is like a honda, number 1 owned and you should own one too but to compete with Ducky, Das, Filco, etc in pricing. Hmmm I wonder. I'm still new here and don't assume to know a hill of beans about anything. Just my observation from what I know so far. Personally if I'm dropping 150$ on a keyboard it's not going to be a CM product. I am however enjoying my normal QFR :)

I wonder who makes the controller. (Chinese noodles plant ?)
Flash memory has a habit of "self-evaporating" (limited data retention).
We end up with a brick when the firmware goes to heaven.

Since you guys are all hot in the neck for the pricing of the QF-I I'll shed some light (pun not intended LOL)
The 150$ price list is actually because it's not actually launched yet ... 150$ are for the early adopters. :p Actual price is not going to be anywhere near that as far as I know ...

TKL CODE keyboard with MX clear is $150, with MX green is $165.

If QRF-i is similar quality, it will sell, even at $150.

How so? It's $5 more than a standard V2. Or do you just mean how fast it sells out?

They come with clears, I would buy if shipping to AU wasn't so costly and if they were in stock.

The Code comes with less common switches and white lighting. I'm a fan of both the lighting and the 2 switch types. It's not marketing to me, it offers a product similar to what Ducky has, but with the switches that they don't.

Innovation isn't actually necessary if your product fills in the gap while being competitively priced.
