Title: Quick Vortex DS PBT Review (First gen Italics)
Post by: Pacifist on Thu, 17 April 2014, 21:59:44
The vortex DS pbt caps are super cheap for thick PBT. There are however pros and cons

Pros:
-PBT
-Doubleshot
-Cheap
-Medium Thick

Cons:
-Lots of PBT bleed on certain caps (which is a fairly common issue with DS PBT)--leads to uneven legend boldness
-Very simplified legends to save tooling costs (no navigations on numpad, 1x shift legends)
-Bleedthrough of the legend doubleshots (you can see through the white PBT)

Neutral:
-Italics Legends
-OEM profile

All in all, a good cheap set. But if you have more money, get something better

The more recent ones are not that cheap, around $69 (plus postage) for a set, so that pro might not be so pro for some people.

I imagine that not many people would put PBT keycaps on backlit keyboards, apart from those who particularly like light bleeding from under the keycaps - maybe not so much of a con.

I'd get the white and blue set in a heartbeat if the price was lower (and postage was less of a concern).

This review is for the 1st gen, the ones with italic legends. The bleeding is visible even without backlighting--it makes the white a blueish white on my blue on white set. With backlighting the light bleeds through too much and is uneven.
